Wow, you call GM for auto bill assistance and get overseas operators??? No way GM for asking the Whitehouse for bailout money. You don't support US workers and are sending our jobs overseas...

I drive GM products (1999 Sunfire - 2006 Malibu - 1965 C10 p/up) and I will not support a Government bailout. I have already done my part by buying and servicing their products. I refuse to support them futher with my tax dollar.

GM has known about the problems in their Corporate structure for years and have done NOTHING to correct it. Their Unions have known about it too and have done nothing to correct it.

GMC and the UAW are dinosaurs with 30-40 year old business practises and ethics. If they can't/won't adapt to the 21rst Century then they deserve to be allowed to die off.

And if, as a result, I have to switch brand loyalty; so be it. I will miss them, though.

Everyone wants a bailout. Expect more of the same from every state, city and industry. By granting the financial institution bailout, it opened the floodgates.

Even the US Government is outsourcing jobs to India,

I actually think that if GM actually made decent cars then this would never happen.

GM makes crap, and now the reputation for that has hit them. That is there fault.

The board thought that they could keep millions, and satisfy we Americans and others with poor quality crap.

Now they are facing the repercussions for this.

I will be saying NO for a bailout for GM.

The U.S. Congress and President should pony up an additional $20 billion for GM lickety-split, for 2 reasons:

    1. The demise of General Motors within the next year would be an economic catastrophe for the U.S.

    2. The additional $20 billion should be sufficient to put GM back on its decade-and-a-half-old track of losing a 1% market share per year, a rate of decline slow enough to permit (a) GM to circumvent bankruptcy and (b) its suppliers and dealerships, and their employees, to adjust to the consumer shift toward quality and out of GM products.

GM quality may be wanting, may be wanting a lot, but it is in no one's interest to see GM disappear within the next year.

You can bail them out or you can support the millions of Americans who will lose their jobs when our auto industry disappear. Now that they bailed out the banks they have to help everybody.

All those free trade laws opened our market to everybody that wants in yet the foreign markets aren't open to American companies.

BTW GM directly employees over 100k Americans and over 1 million indirectly at various suppliers.

alfred - Funny how Japan is closed to European cars too. And Europe is pretty much closed to Japanese cars. Everywhere else is smart enough to take care of their own 1st.

    Wanna know why?

Big 3 cranks out SUVs and import their econoboxes, so no need for countries like Japan with their skinny roads to open their doors to the big 3.

You have to make what fits the market to get in. The big 3 barely do that in the home market right now!
