with out the service manual and records can you tell if A timing belt has been changed on a VOLVO V?

The dealer will only be able to tell you if they are the ones who replaced the belt. Dealerships can only view warranty repairs performed at other dealerships, not customer pat type work.

When a Volvo part is used, there is a replacement sticker with the part that should be filled out and fixed to the engine compartment. This sticker has the mileage and date on it.

You do have an interference engine, so you need to find out and have this resolved soon! I'm guessing you have a 1998 V70, since they are the only ones with a 70k belt. 1999- have a 105k belt replacement interval.

The dealer should be able to tell you. If you bought it from a dealer, they would have all the service records - even if it was done at a different Volvo dealer.

If they can find no record of it being changed, have it checked right away. You are riding on borrowed time if you don't.

Don't guess. Replace it if there is the slightest doubt about it. A broken timing belt will cost you in a big way.

Possibly they may have records, but likely a visual inspection would have to be done, and if you pay someone to remove it for inspection, you had better replace it, and whatever else may be worn.
