R&P: Maybe YOU can help me out...Interesting biographies about musicians...?
Are there any musicians with interesting lives that have a book out about them?
I enjoy reading biographies about interesting or somewhat strange individuals, I guess you can say...
Basically I like reading books that tell life stories of people who have had hard/interesting lives.
I'm going to the library again tomorrow and I ran out of books to check out!
I asked this in Books & Authors and got a couple good answers but I want as many suggestions as I can get.

I've just started one on Duane Allman by Randy Poe, so far it's fascinating, I mean his father was murdered...
Also I recently read "My Bass & Other Animals," it's a book written by noted session bassist Guy Pratt (he's worked with Roxy Music, Pink Floyd, Icehouse, Madonna, Jimmy Page and was even in The Smiths for a week.) It's a really funny account of being a sideman to superstars.
One Train Later, Andy Summers' autobiography is well worth a read too. Basically playing with all these "legends" in the 1960s, being broke in the 1970's and a Superstar in the 1980's.
My Dad says Joe Jackson's is worth a read (he's watching over my shoulder lol), says it has "some grand tales of Rock and Roll idiocy". I haven't had the chance to read it though.
EDIT: Dad just yelled to me that his mate said Ronnie Wood's is also really good...
EDIT2: I'd also be interested to read the one about Madonna by her brother, I don't really like Madonna (okay I can tollerate the original Material Girl,) but I just think it would be interesting.

You'd love Moon by Tony Fletcher. It's about Keith Moon, and man, that guy had a hard/interesting life.
Breaking Down the Wall of Sound--it's about Phil Spector. Also screwy. I can't remember who wrote it.
David Bowie: Life On The Brink--Interesting! Can't remember the author.
Moon's one of my favorite books, so I whole heartedly recommend it!

Anytime I get out to a lounge I don't drink in lounges anymore, but I bought this book for a Punk Rock lounge owner & some musician friends of mine & they all loved this book I bought for them--

It's a sad story in parts of the book, but has parts in the book that's funny too. One thing it does do is shoot full of holes this account of something that Oliver Stone had in a movie scene that was a bunch of bull. Interestingly enough there was one book I never expected that someone gave away to me, which turned up a lot of details, I never expected--

I still like the Beatles music including their solo work, after reading this book, but it turned up some facts, I never expected to be reading. It shows some things in a bad light for example, but it got me thinking of them in not such a great way that I like to think of musicians/singers of, all the time. Well you learn something new every day, is one way to put it.

i'm still trying to get my hands on these two... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Books/s?ie=UTF8&rh=n%3A266...
i haven't read them but i follow Ian Glasper's writing in Terrorizer magazine... he's like in-house punk scribe... and he played bass in Brit hardcore types Stampin' Ground... he's definitely an articulate and interesting chap so should be worth a look...
'The Long Hard Road Out of Hell' by Marilyn Manson's an enjoyable read, but only goes to show you what you already know... that Manson's no 'antichrist', just an intelligent, affable music fan who was driven enough and lucky enough to make it big...
'Heavier Than Heaven' about Kurt Cobain is good, and you don't need to be a 'kurt' or 'grunge' fan to have your heart broken when reading about his life and problems.
'The Dirt' by Motley Crue's a riot and makes you wonder how they are not all dead or at least in jail!
In a similar vein to 'The Dirt' is 'Hammer of the Gods'... the original tale of rock excess and Led Zeppelin...
A friend of mine tells me 'Rotten- No Irish No Blacks No Dogs', the Johnny Rotten autobiog is very good, but i haven't read it yet...
