What is the best way to get from Quepos to La Fortuna Costa Rica?

Is there train service between these town? I would like to hear some suggestions for the most efficient was of getting between these towns.

I will be going in January 2009 which I know is high tourist season. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

In Costa Rica, there is only a very old train in the San Jose Downtown area.

If you are in Quepos and want to go to La Fortuna (San Carlos), you can go to Puntarenas, continue to San Ramon (going up Cambronero mountain) and then go directly to San Carlos, La Fortuna.

You can rent a car, I think is the best option, because having a trip by bus, specially when the places are about 5 hours of distance, is very difficult.

I live in Costa Rica, if you want to know something else about anything you can contact me or send me an email.

I like the Interbus service. You can make reservations through http://www.interbusonline.com/ this would entail going to San Jose, then scheduling a seperate bus to La Fortuna. The shuttle is around $35 for each trip.

You could also fly through http://www.flysansa.com/ You will probably have to book a flight to San Jose and then a seperate flight to La Fortuna.

Now the most affordable would be just taking the local public bus through the same means but this is not as comfortable as the other two options.

I'm a huge fan of the private shuttles. They work with your schedule. They pick you up at your hotel and drop you off at your next hotel. Sometimes they'll even talk about the area you are going through if their english is good. It's less crowded than a public bus, less crowded than a daily shuttle. More comfortable. If you have a lot people in your group, it's sometimes the most economic too. If you don't have a lot of people in your group, its still often the best option as it saves time and the price isn't unreasonable. In June we took a private shuttle from San Jose to Manual Antonio. It was $140 split 3 ways. A little more than the daily shuttle but it was worth the price difference.

no, in costa rica there is not train service at all (only exist a small train between east an west areas of san jose city).

I believe that the best way to go from quepos to la fortuna it's by plane.

or, you can go by bus, but youhave to go from quepos to san jose and then take another bus from san jose to arenal, so you will expend a lot ot time by this way

It depends on how many people you are traveling with, between 1 -3 I would recommend you to go with a shuttle transfer, http://www.mycostaricalink.com/transportation/#shu...

but if you go 4 - 8 definitely you should do a private transfer, it will save you money and it is better since only you guys will be on the transfer, with a bilingual driver, that way you have more flexibility.

If you want to get there FAST, there is always the option to fly to Arenal, you will save yourself around 3 hours but it is way more expensive. I recommend Nature Air, they are the best.

If you want more help or info, search for My Costa Rica, we can help you with your transfers without any extra charge since we work on commission.
