I have a High Def TV and can get the cable to connect a Blu Ray player. Is it time to switch from DVD yet?

I looked at Blockbuster.com and Netflix.com and find that they have movies in Blu Ray, but I can't tell if Blu Ray discs are available enough to warrant buying the player yet. Do you have experience with the technology?

Update:

I tend to rend DVD's and play them, not buy them. The extra cost of the DVD wouldn't bother me, except how it might cost more to rent them. I'd like to rent current releases. Has anyone seen, though, if they are putting classic movies on Blu-ray, the way DVD is?

BluRay is here to stay. It is the standardized format for Hi Def DVDs so they will be around for more than one year...lol NetFlix is the better deal when it comes to bluray DVDs. You can also watch movies instantly in HD via our Xbox360. Find more info at http://www.reviews-n-ratings.com/movie-rental-serv... Netflix is only $1 more/month for BluRay. All new releases are available in Blu Ray and you will start to see classics trickle out as well.

I have a HD/TV, Cable and a Blu-Ray. I'm not selling the Blu-Ray but I find that the Blu-Ray DVD's are really excellent. I have no problem finding Blu-Ray DVD's but they do cost about $10 more. I feel the better picture is worth it. Also, my old regular DVDs look better on the Blu-Ray too.

I have HD Cable. But, I'm sure you know that the Blue-Ray players now on the market only play movies, they don't record stuff. So, the cable does not connect to the Blu-Ray, like old VHS machines.

I'm from the old school when I say, you get what you pay for. In the case of Blu-Rays, I'm willing to pay a little more to get the great picture that my HD TV (1080P) can receive. Nobody can tell you what to do. You have to make up your mind. I went to Best Buy and other stores for months before I purchased the HD/TV and Blu-Ray. It was my choice to get the better picture. If having a great picture is not on you list of priorities, then you may want to stay with what you have.

No, just get an upsaling dvd player, they're cheaper and you don't have to re buy your favourite movies, Blu Ray is going to be finished in a year and everything will be downloads.

If you do buy a blu ray player buy a ps3. It's a cheap blu ray player and you can put media and stuff on as well as play games.

Blu-Ray players are getting cheaper, and they will play regular DVD'[s, but there are not that many Blu-Ray format DVD's available yet. I would wait a while.!! (The DVD's are not cheap, either.)

I've bought nothing but blu-ray now for over a year. I believe everything that comes out on DVD also comes out on blu-ray.

I made the switch to 1080p Blu-Ray a few months ago.

I cringe when I see even upscaled DVDs now. I only buy Blu-Ray.
