What are good starting over careers right now?
I just got downsized. I have 11 years travel sales experience and 9 years newspaper sales/management experience. Both seem dead end right now. Any suggestions? (I do have a Bachelor of Arts degree.)

I Think you have the best seat in the house already. Use your expertise and contact as a salesperson to freelance your talent as a manufacturers rep. Everything made had a salesman to bring it to market.
If you can began to put together a business plan of action I think you will land on your feet.
Every business needs a good salesperson.

With your background I would think that you could move into just about any inside sales.
Think about what companies are going to need, regardless of the economy, then think about companies that supply that.
Maybe it's time to move into a full time outside sales position?
I highly recommend that you start networking a lot. Check in Meetup.com and see if there are any groups that relate to what you did or might want to do. Find any job clubs in your area. There's nothing better than doing a "Search With A Team".
Maybe it's time to move into Non-Profits or something?
It's not what you know, but really is who you know. Jobs are being found by people who get referred. 70% of the new hires are due to a referral. Find someone that can refer you somewhere.
