Should the government bail out General Motors or should they go bankrupt?

With the whole economy down and lots of good paying jobs gone also why should the government bail out GM,and will it just delay the inevitable?.

It is NOT the governments responsibility to "bail out" any business or corporation. Why didn't they bail out all the farmers in the 80's? But today they bail out all the bankers don’t they. Wake up people it is just a game being played by the rich and elite. If you want to know what is really going on watch the link below. Welcome to the American Plutocracy.

Bankruptcy protection has a court appointed trustee to make decisions to protect the interest of creditors. The corporation may ultimately be wound up with assets sold to pay creditors some money, or it may continue, with the US government being main stockholder. Bailout money has been used to buy GM stock and debt paper. So the government too may lose money on this process, or it may after a long time be able to sell those GM shares, and collect on the debt paper. Likely there will be some loss.

I hate to see all those people out of work. If anyone should have been allowed to fail, it was those Wall Street boys. The government has to bail GM out.

The whole "bailout" is a bunch of crap. They need to look at the financial records, all of the gross overspending on salaries, bonuses, retirement and other perks for company leaders, while the business itself is sinking. Last company I worked for, I didn't make a bonus unless my sales were GOOD, unless I came in under budget for payroll, supplies, etc. They should have to give their bonuses back, cut back their salaries, bail themselves out.

For at least three generations now the Big Labor Union goons have been strong-arming the the auto makers into bankruptcy.

    Let them fail.

Yes, I think if GM can not compete then they should step aside. Toyota can make a better, less expensive car, let them flourish.

I think they should calculate a bailout package that's just enough for the other companies, and offer the same thing to GM. It won't be enough for them, but tough titties.

Let GM go bankrupt. Honestly, no one's buying the cars. Let's face it, with many jobs lost and people living with money they have to afford on necessities, who needs to buy a freakin car?

They keep making the cars, yet keep getting overstocked with them knowing no one is going to buy them. So honestly, no bailout for them.
