37w4d How much longer?

Ok according to my ultrasound I am 37w4d but according to my lmp i am 39w4d. Since Saturday I have been having a lot of contractions, and they are getting more painful, but aren't regular. I had them for about eight hours straight today and then they stopped. I haven't lost my mucus plug or broke my waters as far as i know, but am just wondering from the description of whats going on how much longer you think i have. Also can you be in labor and dilated without losing your plug or breaking your waters? And can your waters be "leaking" without loosing your plug? Sorry this is so long, I am just looking for some hopeful advice. I have an appointment in the morning with the doctor and they will be checking to see if or how far dilated I am:)

The ultrasounds can be off by a week or so. I'm 39 weeks now and my plug has been out for almost 2 weeks. I get contractions all the time but they're irregular. I was dressed and ready to go to the hospital last night and the darn things stopped! I'm 2cm dilated too and she's fully engaged and ready to go. I've done everything in my power to get her out (minus castor oil), and it just doesn't work. Your waters might not break until you're in labour, and you might not lose your plug either until labour. I've only lost mine because I'm already dilated.

I'd love to say we're both going into labour tonight, but there's really no way to tell whatsoever. At least we can both be happy that its almost over, either way!!

  • It sounds like you are progressing nicely.

If it were true labour, your contractions would have continued to progress and worsen, so it sounds like either early labour for you, or a bit of BH.

It shouldn't be too much longer now, as a fun guess, I'm gonna estimate you to give birth at 38 weeks and 3 days!

My dates were a little messed up too. I gave birth at 38 weeks and 1 day, but according to my own LMP dates, I gave birth at 40 weeks on the dot!

its hard to say how long you have to go i mean its completely up to your body to decide when Your baby is coming but when i went into labour with my first child her head had crowned before they broke my waters so yeah. and my contraction were like yours they were painful and were regular. i would wait till your appointment and tell your doctor what your experiencing they may be able to help you a bit more. the only other thing i suggest is just time the pain your experiencing and its gets really bad go see a doctor. i hope this helps

    :)
