How much does that job pay?

Back in the day, when I was just starting out searching for a job, I would pull into the employee parking lot and if their cars were as beat up as mine or worse, if they were than I would make that big U turn right back out. Now I am looking for a more sophisticated way of determining how much a given company may pay for a position. I recently read that the salary offered is closer to the first number that is put forth so if you leave the figure "open" for wages on the application than you may be reducing your salary.

Use the internet and figure out about how much people get paid for the job you want. Very rarely is an employer going to go higher than what you request, so request slightly higher than what you can live with.

By the way, employee's cars may have little to do without how much someone pays. People choose what they want to spend their money on. I have an old car, but a very nice house and get paid fairly well.
