Origins of Common Superstitions?

Alright, so I have to do a speech for my speech class (duh) and my topic is origins of common superstitions. I have been looking and i only found 4 kinda weak resources. I need resources and they cannot be a website(otherwise i wouldn't need this help)

Please if you could find a journal/magazine/newspaper article, interview or book excerpt, that would help me so much.

Thanks!

You should look at Psychology books for this one. I am in Behavioral Psychology and Learning right now. We covered the common superstition thing. Some superstitions evolve from personal experience. i.e. When a girl wears her red socks, 49ers win. Others are historical that people come to believe through word-of-mouth. A common superstition is that it is bad luck to light more than one cigarette from one light. This came from wartimes. During war, having a lighter/match lit for a long period of time meant that the enemy could see you and kill you.

The textbook I am using is called LEARNING AND BEHAVIOR, 6th Edition by MAZUR.
