Have you ever been in a public setting where everyone spontaneously breaks into song and/or dance?

Have you been at work, on a bus, at school or in a restaurant where everyone suddenly breaks into song like they do in the movies? For all the skeptics who say it can never happen or that it only happens in movies, I beg to differ. All you need is an instigator, the right place, the right time and the right song. This is in my top ten things to do before I die.

Actually, I have seen this happen.

I used to work for a Head Start program. This was the hardest working bunch of people I've ever had the honor to work with. Breaking into song happened fairly often. The best incident occurred at a conference when the executive director of our organization received an award. The presenter said something about being able to count on this "gal, to always put her best foot forward."

The boss was a very funny lady. She jumped up and started singing, "You put you right foot in, you pull you right foot out." The rest of us (several hundred people) jumped up and joined her in a rousing rendition of the Hokey Pokey.

In Italy, 1979, I was walking down a street and saw a door in a wall. I looked through and there was a large plaza with shops all around and several outdoor tables. I went in, sat down and ordered a light lunch. A few people at a table outside a shop a few doors down started singing a song. Soon others joined in. In no time at all, the whole plaza (piazza) was singing. I actually looked around for the movie cameras, thinking perhaps I'd stumbled into the sound stage of a musical movie. But no, the waiter assured me, this often happened there. That has to be one of my favorite memories of the more than 30 countries I've visited (some more than once) and was stationed in (3)while in the U.S. Navy for over 20 years.

Several years ago I was doing construction cleanup in a clean room at Micron, it was a very nasty job and you had to crawl around among all of these pipes, I started singing Someones in the kitchen with Dina -- my friend said what the hell are you doing---Pretty soon all of the union plumbers and iron workers and tin men were singing too and the whole place was full of my old song. I had no idea why I started singing that tune but it was a hoot.

Go for it. I hope I am there because I will jump on the table and sing my heart out and dance with you! People would most like to be involved in such spontaneous joy. I am all for it

I have been having dinner out when a birthday cake arrives at another table and the whole restaurant starts to sing

    Nope....never seen it.

I saw an answer from Grandma (see below) that changed my answer. My daughter breaks out singing at random. It's never quiet. And it cheers me up everytime. She never fails to bust out in song when she's going potty. I have no idea what that's all about. :)
