How hard is it to catheterize someone?

I'm considering a radiology technologist program and one of the things you have to learn is ow to catheterize patients. This makes me nervous, how hard is it to learn? And as a male, will I be expected to catheterize female patients?

They will teach you the proper way to catheterize patients. The actual process is not difficult once you get past the mental part. And yes, it is likely you may one day be expected to do this on female patients.

As a nurse I have done this procedure so many times that I have lost count. Sometimes it is hard if someone has weird anatomy, or an enlarged prostate, but other times it is easy. You won't be expected to just do it without being shown, so I wouldn't worry about it. Once you've done a few then you will get used to it.

The procedure itself for male or female is not difficult. It's keeping everything sterile that you really have to focus on. Good luck!
