Christmas gifts for someone ill?

A very close family friend is in the process of being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. She is 19 years old and is a college student. Her disease causes her chronic joint pain. Does anyone have any ideas that she might enjoy for Christmas gifts that would help to ease her pain or make things easier on her?

Update:

there have been a few wonderful ideas so far. I realize that pain management should be left up to her doctor, but I was hoping you all would have some ideas that are home remedies or items that make you feel better when your in pain ( the footbath is a great example). My friend is a college student and has had to quit working because of her illness, so she is on a tight budget and I'm sure she would love to get practical (but still enjoyable gifts) from those of us that care about her. Netflix is also an excellent idea, and I would love to get her flowers but a years' subscription is so expensive (600 dollars!) I would appreciate any ideas and can use lots because I am sure a few of our other friends could use them.

Pain management is her medical team's job, but nearly everyone can use a good laugh, especially someone going through some tough times. A funny book (David Sedaris "Me Talk Pretty One Day" is hilarious), a comedy DVD, or anything else that'll put a smile on her face would be welcome.

Is she spending time in bed, or wheelchair-bound? There are supplies to make either easier, from trays to tote bags. Does she need a cane? There are some amazing cool ones.

Does she need a body pillow, bath supplies, or other creature comforts to help her muscles relax? Flannel jammies? Wild socks?

If she's just carrying on the best she can while experiencing pain, the best gift might be whatever you'd have given before she became ill, and your friendship unaltered by her changed circumstances.

I'm very sorry to hear that! I hope she gets better.

You could get her one of those little vibrating massage things, or a bubble bath gift basket, or a heating pad. You're so sweet to care, I hope you all have a Merry Christmas!

A Nice cozy warm, electric blanket or heating pad.

    A Nice warm bathrobe

    A Foot Bath/Massager

Anything that will make her whole body feel comfortable.

Since she is a very good firend...give her something that reminds her of you. My mo is very ill and anthing tat makes her think of me or my brother makes her haoppy. For example, Last Christmas I got a pictue of when me and my brother where little and I took it to walmart and they put it on a plate, they can also put it on a blnket which might be really good for your friend...Just find a picture of you and her and personalize it! Good Luck with your friend!
