Rough idle on an '00 Grand Cherokee Laredo?

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I got for a very good price. The water pump needed replaced and I did that in an hour in my garage and it ran fine for months. The engine recently started idling rough and I have done several things to no avail. I cleaned my aftermarket cold air intake's filter, I replaced the oxygen sensors, I ran injector fluid through it, I cleaned the throttle body, and I put new plugs in. The fuel filter was also replaced recently and pressure is normal. It only idles rough at start up and when sitting still. As soon as i give it gas it is fine. All cylinders are firing properly. Any ideas?

I'd start with the wires and distributor cap as well, and if you'r going that far you may as well change the rotor, points and condenser. You may also want to check your manifold by spraying a little water around the intake to check for leaks in the gaskets, if the idle changes, you've got a leak in the intake manifold, probably the gasket.

Im having the same problem but FYI a 2000 Grand Cherokee 4.0 does not have a distributor. So cap rotor and wires cant be the problem. A couple of people have told me to check or replace the idle air solenoid. Hope that fixes the problem. My jeep runs like a top off idle but runs very rough at idle.

I have a friend than at has a 2000 jeep Cherokee it was cutting when she would come to a stop plus rough idle.I changed the spark plugs which stopped it from cutting off at stops but continued to had a rough idle.I think its the the throttle position idle sensor.I'm going to get it looked up to a machine and get it diagnosed to be sure

Check E.G.R. and all vacuum lines. Both of these could cause an idle problem. You said you replaced the plugs but maybe the wires are bad.

I had a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that I used to haul my trailer. The towing ability on that motorcar, which replaced proper right into a V-6, too, replaced into 5000 #. I had a class III hitch on it, and that i think of of that makes the version - i think of of a class I hitch is for comfortable and small autos, like a small shifting-tag-alongside, and a class II hitch would desire to be for a quite larger trailer, like a landscape trailer. a class III or a class IV hitch would desire to be for larger, heavier themes, like a deliver, a horse trailer, or super, enclosed shifting trailers or ATV/motorbike trailers. My trailer weighed approximately one thousand #, and that i in consumer-friendly words had one horse, that weighed anouther one thousand#, whether it had no concern pulling it.... distinctive than for the time jiffy Lube did not tighten the oil sparkling out each and each of techniques and it unscrewed itself together as i replaced into pulling the empty (thank god) trailer, and my engine went up in smoke. stupid jiffy Lube. Your truck could desire to have not have been given any concern pulling the trailer and your horses, even over that distance - in fact make effective each element mechanical is in ascertain, fluids are finished, and....each element is tight. communicate on your mechanic, too - they had be absolute to function a thicker oil, like 5w30 quite of the huge-unfold 10w30 that optimal passenger autos take, quite in case you have larger mileage.

Besides checking the cap /wires don't overlook vacuum lines.

Source(s): My wife has a 2000 Grand Cherokee same problem,..vacuum line came off. Very common problem.
