what's more important? loyalty or honesty?

it's a pretty hard question cuz this is a question based on a story i read in reading class

but i'll tell u what happened

the story is called "after twenty years.." by o. henry

it was a dark night

it's about a dude named bob who was waiting outside an abandoned restaurant

then a cop came to see what he's up to

bob tells him that he's waiting for his friend bc twenty years earlier they were best friends and they made an agreement to see each other twenty years later

the cop goes like 'who's this friend?'

and then bob says 'its jimmy wells. he's the most truest honest old chap' or something like that

and then the cop says 'okay i hope u meet ur friend'

and then the cop leaves.

around thirty minutes later, another dude walks to bob and he says "BOB? IS THAT U?"

and bob says "JIMMY?!"

then they met and started talking . then they went to a drug store to buy some liquor to drink. when they looked at each other, bob saw jimmy's face.

bob said HEY! you're not jimmy! your nose is different!

then jimmy says "you're under arrest"

here's the rest of the story that was copied and pasted (i got this from my online textbook)

“You’re not Jimmy Wells,” he snapped. “Twenty years is a long time, but not long enough to change a man’s nose from a Roman to a pug.”

“It sometimes changes a good man into a bad one,” said the tall man. “You’ve been under arrest for ten minutes, ‘Silky’ Bob. Chicago thinks you may have dropped over our way and wires us she wants to have a chat with you. Going quietly, are you? That’s sensible. Now, before we go to the station, here’s a note I was asked to hand to you. You may read it here at the window. It’s from Patrolman Wells.”

The man from the West unfolded the little piece of paper handed him. His hand was steady when he began to read, but it trembled a little by the time he had finished. The note was rather short.

Bob: I was at the appointed place on time. When you struck the match to light your cigar, I saw it was the face of the man wanted in Chicago. Somehow I couldn’t do it myself, so I went around and got a plainclothes man to do the job.

Jimmy

now someone help me out here!!

Both men honor a commitment they made over twenty years ago, but for Jimmy Wells there’s one thing more important than even a long friendship. In a sentence or two, state the theme of this story. What truth about loyalty versus honesty does the story reveal to you?

Honesty. Who wants someone who lies being loyal?

It seems, relatively simple to me.

The entire question, comes down to IMPORTANCE.

The meeting was important, so in both characters meet at the appointed time and place.

The friendship was important, to both parties-the assumed police character, recognised a wanted felon, who was his supposed friend. Because of the importance of the friendship, did not carry out his duty and initiate an arrest.

    HOWEVER.

That Officer, recognised the importance of his sworn office and to carry out his duty. He made arrangements for another, to assume his identity and carry out the arrest.

IT DOES NOT COME DOWN TO PURELY, A QUESTION OF HONESTY AND LOYALTY.

It comes down to a question of what takes precedence.

Does duty and honor take precedence over loyalty and honesty, or vice versa.

Hurm... I dont know if you can be loyal if you are a dishonest person totaly. Your best bet is to arrest the cop that puts you under arrest for just trying to live a life and then set the cop free when he says hes had enoth of his own cake :)

If I was going to go to jail id say I was innocent also but I at least admit I was in jail for a reason.

...loyalty and honesty can be gotten, with sex, drugs, power, or money...

...honesty will be honest without anything to gain...

    ...loyalty once abused is lost...

...loyalty would be most important in my life...
