Can I ask my credit card company for a payment extension?
I am a long-time cardmember (10 years? maybe more) with an excellent credit rating. I had one late payment 14 months ago because I completely forgot to pay my credit cards that month somehow. Otherwise I have an excellent payment history. My payment is due on Sunday and I don't think I can make the minimum because something got screwed up with my husband's paycheck. Will the company entertain my request for a one-week extension?
I'd call the card company directly and ask but the CS is now done overseas and it's never pleasant dealing with them. It's hard to hear, to understand, and they are always trying to aggressively push some service or another on me before I can get off the phone.

If you are in good standing it doesn't hurt to contact them and either ask for an extension or tell them that you have some money to pay towards this card this month and you would like to make that payment and not have it hurt your credit. I was in the same situation about a year ago when my mother was in the hospital dying from a lung disease, my minimum due was $75.00, I called the credit card company and asked if I could pay $35.00 with no penalties and they were happy to help me out.
I wish you the best of luck!

I worked for a major credit card company for three years so I know how you feel. Just to let you know you can always request to talk to some one in the good old USA. Most people don't know that but just say, "I am having a hard time understanding you could I talk to some one in the US" and they will transfer you. I got people all the time that were so glad that they could understand me. The other part is not as easy. Check with your credit card company... some accounts are late the day after the due date and some do not count as late until after the cycle date ( about 7 - 10 days after the due date ). If your account is not affected until after the cycle date ask them when that is and that could buy you an extra week or better. Your credit won't be affected unless you miss two payments in a row (30 days delinquent) so even if you are late ask them to extend a one time courtesy on the late fee and most of the time they will be happy to do that. If they don't try back 2-3 times. It is up to the reps discretion to waive fees so you may get some one nice the first time or it may take a couple of tries. If that doesn't work ask to talk to a manager there. If they are unwilling play the guilt card and say I can't believe that my 10 years of loyalty isn't worth 1 $39 late fee. You'll get results guaranteed!

As the other responder stated, call and ask. If your card is with a bank that has a branch near you, call the branch instead of the number on the card.
I have also had cs reps from another country that i find difficult to understand. In that case, I will tell the rep that i am having difficulty understanding them and could they please transfer me to someone who has a better command of the english language.
