  • Pink eye and hard contacts?

My 2 year old got pink eye and shared it with me. Although I stopped wearing my hard (RGP) contacts when I realized he had it (thinking I would probably get it too), and used the antibiotic drops, I got pink eye twice as bad when I put the contacts back in a week later. My optometrist told me I have to replace them, which I feel sick about.

I've worn RGP lenses for years and I love them - but the chances that my toddler in daycare will get pink eye again seem so great that I'm thinking I'm going to have to switch to disposable lenses. I can't afford to replace my $200+ lenses everytime he gets pink eye...since I seem to catch anything and everything that he does.

Am I overreacting? Is there any way my RGP lenses can be disinfected against pink eye?

  • Slowly losing channels with converter box?

I've been using an Access HD DTA 1080D converter box for about 1.5 years - along with an RCA digital flat am ploified antenna. Got about 15 channels for the first year...and have been losing channels slowly over the last 6 months. Now only get NBC and its RTV affiliate. I've rescanned the channels to no avail, tried everything in the manuals for both the box and the antenna but only succeed in losing even more channels. I used to get pixelation on some of the lost channels but now it's just nothing.

How do I know if this problem is the antenna or the box? I'd rather not replace both if I don't need to.

  • Free shipping code for Amazon?

Buying a large ticket item but from a seller other than Amazon.com so it doesn't qualify for free super saver shipping. Is there any other way to save on shipping? I tried retailmenot.com but didn't find anything.

  • Britax car seat - Berkshire Gray or Onyx?

Trying to choose a pattern for my new car seat (online, I haven't seen them in person). Should I choose Berkshire Gray or Onyx? They look pretty comparable except the Berkshire Gray seems more plush. First kid, getting ready to move him out of the SnugRide, no clue which type of fabric will work better and hold up the best. Anyone with experience with these seats? Thanks!

  • I reserved hotel room online with my credit card - will I need the actual card at the hotel?

I know this is sort of crazy but it's where I am. I cut up my credit card because I intended to pay it off. But then I needed to go out of town and I want to put the charges on my card so I made the reservation online using my card's number from an old bill. The card is still valid, I just don't have the actual plastic. Will I need to produce the card at the hotel to check in or out? I'm leaving in less than two days so I don't have time to get a new card from the company.

  • Thoughts on the name Jude for a boy?

The two names I'm considering for my son are Jude Thomas and Ian Gregory. I like names that are easy to pronounce and spell and don't have common nicknames. Thoughts?

  • Can I ask my credit card company for a payment extension?

I am a long-time cardmember (10 years? maybe more) with an excellent credit rating. I had one late payment 14 months ago because I completely forgot to pay my credit cards that month somehow. Otherwise I have an excellent payment history. My payment is due on Sunday and I don't think I can make the minimum because something got screwed up with my husband's paycheck. Will the company entertain my request for a one-week extension?

I'd call the card company directly and ask but the CS is now done overseas and it's never pleasant dealing with them. It's hard to hear, to understand, and they are always trying to aggressively push some service or another on me before I can get off the phone.

  • Charting help - can I trust this temperature?

I normally temp at 6 a.m. I woke at 4:30 from a bad dream and needing to pee and realized I wouldn't have 3 more hours of sleep before 6 a.m. so I temped at 4:30. I was out of bed about a minute and a half to pee and close the window. I went back to bed until 6 and decided to temp again just to see what it was. It went up .4 degrees! Can I trust that 6 a.m. reading?

  • Best way to care for a burn so it won't scar?

I have a two inch burn on my forearm from my oven. It's pink around the edges and has blistered. It's been about 36 hours since I burned it. I've been putting salve on it but that's about it. What can I do to minimize the chance of scarring? It's in a very noticeable place, especially with short sleeve weather here.

  • Are the carpet cleaning machines you can rent any good?

I have one big stain on my carpeting I need to get out but mostly I'd like to just freshen it up to get rid of any odors (I have two dogs) and keep it nice-looking. Are the machines you can rent at the grocery store easy to use and are the results worth the trouble? I don't have a ton of carpeting, just the living room, dining room and stairs.

I had it done professionally by Coit a year ago when we moved into the house. I thought it was way too expensive to do again though.

  • Substitute for chipotle peppers in adobo sauce?

I am making these shrimp burritos: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Shrimp-Burritos/Detai...

My grocery store didn't have the pureed chipotle peppers in adobo sauce that it calls for. I bought some serrano peppers in the produce section instead. Was thinking of mincing them and using them in the sauce. Good idea or should I hold out for what the recipe calls for?

  • Verizon Wireless - discounted pricing vs. New Every Two?

Verizon Wireless says I'm eligible for discounted pricing on a new phone now - but my New Every Two comes up in December. Just wondering how they do the New Every Two. Is the value of phone I can get in December based on the value of the phone I have now?

I'm trying to decide if I should hold out until my New Every Two comes up - will the discount be that much greater?

  • New iris leaves coming in - how to remove old ones?

(Completely new to gardening, small bed of iris came with the house!). I cut back the old leaves last fall but the rest of the old leaves are still in the bed, completely brown and dry. Should I cut them or give them a tug to remove them? The new leaves started appearing last week. Also, any tips to make them last once they bloom? Last year it seemed pretty fleeting - maybe a few weeks max?

  • Mother in law has unreasonable expectations of what we should do for her - help!?

My husband is an only child, now 34. My MIL raised him alone and worked very hard to move him into a good school district, put him through college, etc. She's a wonderful woman and has done a lot for us both over the years. However, she creates lots of work for herself - and us. She complains about how much work her house is, how expensive it is to maintain, and how she has no help (she is single), yet she lives in a big 4 br house in one of the most expensive school districts around - just for her and her small dog. My husband isn't working right now so helps whenever she asks - but the level of detail with which she insists things be done is crazy! She creates so much extra work and if you argue with her, she just yells about how no one loves and helps her and makes him feel guilty.

My husband sees a therapist regularly and has taken her to one of his appts so they could learn how to communicate better - and all she did was get defensive and argue with him for an hour. What to do?
