ASVAB Scores - Line Scores are higher?

I received a 22 on the ASVAB and was told I needed eight more points to get into my selected MOS.

When I look for the line scores online I see all of them are in the 90s-100s. What am I missing here?

Update:

Mark - Thanks for explaining. My Sargent said the scores were fine and just to study a little more and I'll take it again. He was able to get the scores in subject areas and Math was my lowest (no surprise there!). I'm a Journalism major, (going for Journalism MOS) so English and word questions were a breeze. I've been studying for the past month; and things are going well. I'm horrible in test-taking situations but I'm confident this next time will be fine now that I know what's going to happen. I was confused on the score vs. line scores as he seemed fine by my end score. Thanks again.

Yea, your missing how the scores are calculated.

The asvab test is really 9 sub test.

They use 4 of the sub test to calculate your overall asvab precentile.

It is not a hard score, it is a percentage.

    IE: you scored 22,

That means you scored higher than 22% of the people who took the practive asvab test when they developed it.

Or another way, you scored lower than 78% of them.

The 4 sections used in the over all asvab, test English and Math skills.

So evidently you aren't to hot in english and math.

Your line scores on the other hand, are hard scores.

They are calculated completely different than the asvab score.

You really need to enroll in a Adult education class , like a GED class.

They teach basic english and math skills.

Thats the best thing you can do, to improve your asvab score.

It doesn't matter if you already have a HS diploma or a GED.

You can either do whats necessary to improve yourself.

Or you can stay the way you are, and never get anywhere in life.

Don't let Pride get in your way and think, no way im gonna take a ged class, you need to do whatever it takes to reach your goals.

If that means hitting the books for a couple of months, then thats what you need to do.

    Perhaps intelligence?

There was a guy that our Chief was handling, he went to take the test, returned in thirty minutes with a grand total score of 6.

Source(s): Sorry for being mean, it had to be said. You can retake it in a month, buy a ASVAB study guide from Borders or Amazon and study a bit :D

Is that the total score or just in one area? If that's the total, you need to buy some books and actually study them. You may also wanna invest in a tutor or study group.
