  • Military Discharge - Uncharaterized 135-178 But never shipped to Basic?

    The history:

Signed at DEPs at Meps. Entered unit, came to drill as ordered, worked as order, waited for ship date to BCT and AIT. After much go around for a full year, they promised me a MOS, then said they couldn't do that; lost paperwork; put me in only to tell me it was my recuiters problem, go to him. He says the training seats are full... we wait. Long story short I have been DRILLING with my unit for a full year and some change. Working all details, etc. BUT have not been to BCT OR AIT. I NEVER signed the FINAL contract people sign the day that they ship to basic. On the discharge letter I recieved from my commander it states as the reason: Failed to ship to MOS school. -- My question how can they discharge me when I was never able to complete basic training? How can I get a discharge for not shipping to AIT when I haven't graduated BASIC TRAINING? Thus not "Offically" really in the army. Can anyone sort this out for me? I'm gathering facts and forming up my written statements for review.

    Thank You.

  • Think I made a mistake? - Settled for MOS 91J?

Army Reserves only could offer me 91J - Quartermaster and Chemical Equipment Repairer since that was the only thing available for reserve. I really wanted 31B MP… However the reserve unit I'm attached to is a MP brigade so possible cross-training?? (That's what the Master Sergeant said).

Pro: Going officer route, have two years (or less) needed to finish for degree... then planning on switching to MP. And I since I'll (hopefully) be doing the SMP program through ROTC I won't even be working my job, just shadowing the Officers of the reserve unit.

And on the Brightside I’d rather have this than a paper-pushing job.

However, is there anything I need to study to get through AIT? I’m not that mechanically minded… but I don’t mind getting dirty and (attempting) to fix stuff.

Now, please tell me those of you with experience in 91J, have I been fed too much BS that I'm choking on it, or will does my reasoning (and theirs) seem logical?

Thanks. - Tips on AIT for Quartermasters would be great.

  • Health Coverage while at BCT & AIT?

Is heath insurance covered while attending BCT and AIT? Or will there be a 31-+ waiting period to get it activated?

    Thanks.

  • HAZMAT Reports online?

I need to find hazmat reports: Claiming what PPE was used, who the first responder was, mainly the Who, What, and where plus which chemicals were involved, etc.

Mostly the only thing I can find are newspaper reports, but they do not cover these types of information.

    Thank you.

  • MOLLE 11 Rucksack Differences?

Between the 8464-01-524-5285 and 8465-01-524-5285 MOLLE 11 Rucks.

When I look it up online it says I have the same pack even though in the NSN there is a difference between 8464 and 8465. From the pictures I have the 8465 looks more like our current rucks (old ones) with the three pouches in front and all, and the 8465 looks more vertical. Do I have that right?

If you could pick between the two, which would you prefer?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Proper wear of PC while in Vehicle?

Something we were never taught, perhaps because no one is as stupid as me to question it. When we bus we take them off, but what about in personal vehicle on and off post? I've seen some people take them off others leave them on. I've always taken it off and put it on the dash board so it's handy when I get out. Thoughts?

Windows down, hat on, windows up hat off?

    Thanks.

  • LTC (Army Leader's Training Course) - Pack own equipment?

Browsing through past topics about LTC I noticed there were a couple TIs on here answering posts, and hoped I might be able to get a question answered.

Do they want you to bring your own equipment? Like my Kevlar, LBE, Rucksuck, uniform, etc? Or do I need to leave all of that behind and strictly take civilian basics (socks, undergarments, etc?). If so, would it be okay, to pack that in my rucksack or do I need to take a civilian looking pack? And what about dog tags, wear mine since I already have them or leave them back?

    Thank you.

  • Army ROTC - Contracting with Reserve - PT Question.?

When contacting with the Reserve, is PT with the ROTC unit required? I've been told both ways so far: You're enrolled in ROTC classes, come to class, do field exercises, events, etc but are not obligated to have PT 5/4 days a week with the ROTC unit. That physical fitness your own responsibility.

And then have been told, that it is a requirement and it must be fulfilled just like contracting with the Guard or ROTC.

Any information to help clear this up is appreciated.

    Thank you.

  • Not Receiving Letters at BCT?

My friend seems to not be receiving my letters, this last time he wrote and he said none have come to him. The address is correct as is zipcode. I did however put a piece of clear tape on the back to make sure it stays sealed. Would this have effected the process?

    Thank you.

  • Most comfortable boots (Recommendations)?

I was issued the hot weather boots, broke them in (some blood involved there!) but they still hurt. It seems like the backs rub at just the right spot above my heel no matter what socks I wear. Although the size is great in the toe area and width wise.

What boots do you recommend? I thought I'd splurge from my own account and buy them. Any thoughts on the rubber wave/ripple sole?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Army Reserve Vs. National Guard (Advice)?

    Sorry if this is long:

I originally talked with a Army recruiter and he got me through the ASVAB and so forth and getting ready to go to MEPS when I moved and transferred to a college. Joined ROTC and was given the option of going to LTC (Leader's Training Course) this summer to count as my basic (Since apparently it does now). The choice I have to make is whether to go National Guard or Army Reserve. Honestly I lean more towards the Reserve.

    Now for the details:

I want an MOS of journalism, photojournalism, Public Relations, combat documentary, or anything along those lines. I was told through ROTC that they could guarantee me a MOS in what I want through the Guard, and that it would be harder to get said MOS in the Reserves.

Depending on how my time in service goes, I want to consider going carrier or at least longer than the 8 year commitment.

    My Questions:

Do many people make go carrier in the Guard?

Which choice am I more likely to get the MOS I want?

Which choice am I more likely to get more opportunities with? (like Airborne school, or special units?)

Which choice is going to allow me to relocate a little bit more easier?

    In closing:

I picked the military NOT because I'm looking for someone to pay for the rest of my education. I picked the military because I feel called to this line of work. I want to put my all into it, not just go for the benefits or side money. At this time in my life I want to give it my all.

    Thank you in advance.

  • ASVAB Scores - Line Scores are higher?

I received a 22 on the ASVAB and was told I needed eight more points to get into my selected MOS.

When I look for the line scores online I see all of them are in the 90s-100s. What am I missing here?
