How do I clean a stainless steel saucepan?

I was boiling water to make tea and forgot and it boiled dry and now is all black and spotty on the interior of the pan (on the bottom). Looks burnt. What will clean that off? It is a RevereWare pan with the solid aluminum bottom.

    add 1 cup of white vinegar to the pot bring to boil turn the stove off this time and let it cool than scrub with SOS
