Have you sat down with your S\O and discussed?

the turbulent times we are in...and have you agreed that it is time to be more careful, more conservative in your life with regard to spending and saving?

Update:

Wow...I am impressed! It is nice to see there are reasonable people out there....and thanks

Well I sure tried to. *big sigh* I'm working three jobs now, as my main job no longer is enough to cover the rising costs of everything.

However, as for him agreeing? Well if he's paid on Friday he's broke by Saturday night, and this is not a low earner, either. I have told him over and over he needs to save for emergencies and for long term goals. He can't just depend on me to bail him out because it is not fair and because I don't make enough money in the first place.

    Aaaaaargh!

Yes...for us, we are saving for a house in the spring (Which, ironically we are only able to really tangibly afford BECAUSE of these turbulent times-the area we live in would typically outprice us, but due to fallen home prices, we can actually afford to buy), and so we have definitely had conversations about our needs to be really careful about our finances and to save as much as possible.

It's nice to be so like-minded on those things. Especially since money has the potential to cause so much dissention in couples.

UGH, yes. The topic of the year. My husband has been denying that there is any problem with the economy & just continues spending like it's growing on trees while I'm out hunting for a job that won't pay NEARLY as much as I was making before I got laid off. It sucks. He's finally realizing after seeing other friends jobs & lives crash around him, that I was actually right. Hey, don't take my word for it, right? So yes we've discussed it endlessly & I'm entirely over it.

Yes my husband and I were just talking about this last night that we need to put money back b/c with the economy the way it is you never know what tomorrow will bring!

We are doing great financailly but you never know when one of us could lose our job and him being a firefighter if something happens to him where me and the children stand!

We larned a long time ago (I'm 31 he is 30) and we have no credit cards use cash for everything except for ATM with Logo.

I typically deal with all our finances and bills, but my husband and I have developed a strategy for paying off all our debt. We've both agreed to cut back on certain things and we'll follow the plan until we're debt free. So far, we've already paid off two debts that we owed and we're working our way through the rest.

    Yes we have.

Since I'm basically a housewife, my hubs want to know if I understood "reality". We are extremely conservative anyway, so there's very little we can cut back on. But it was important for him to know I understand the economy right now.

We have discussed the times, but we're fine financially; both of us know when to spend and when to save, so it's business as usual for us. We are not frivolous spenders.

Definitely! One of the biggest causes of issues in a marriage are financial problems. It's important to try to circumvent any future problems if at all possible!

yes, we have, but then again neither of us are big spenders. we have good jobs that pay well and have two children between both of us. i have always been a very cautious spender. i have always taken the time to clip coupons and (the hardest part) actually use them at the stores. i have always been the one to look for the "deals" so yeah, but i am use to it...

    Absolutely,

neither my spouse or i have touched the credit cards in 6 months...which is extremely hard but worth it.
