Do I need to bake canned pumpkin before folding it into a NO-Bake Jello mix?

I want to make my own pumpkin cheesecake. I bought a No-Bake Jello Cheesecake mix and want to fold in canned pumpkin and whipped topping. Can I do this? I do not want to make people sick. Thanks for any input.

    Pumpkin Cheesecake Bars

Pumpkin pie and cheesecake go together perfectly in this special dish from Sharon Kurtz. “These bars are absolutely delightful and easy to make,” she writes from Emmaus, Pennsylvania.

TIME: Prep: 15 min. Bake: 35 min. + chilling

    Ingredients:

    2 cups graham cracker crumbs

    1/4 cup sugar

    1/4 cup reduced-fat butter, melted

    FILLING:

2 packages (8 ounces each) reduced-fat cream cheese

    1 package (8 ounces) fat-free cream cheese

    3/4 cup sugar

    1 can (15 ounces) solid-pack pumpkin

    2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

    3/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

    3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

    2 eggs, lightly beaten

    20 walnut halves

    Directions:

In a small bowl, combine cracker crumbs and sugar; stir in butter. Press onto the bottom of a 13-in. x 9-in. baking dish coated with cooking spray. Cover and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.

In a large mixing bowl, beat cream cheeses and sugar until smooth. Beat in the pumpkin, flour, pie spice and vanilla. Add eggs; beat on low speed just until combined. Pour over crust.

Bake at 325° for 35-45 minutes or until center is almost set. Cool on a wire rack for 1 hour. Cover and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.

Cut cheesecake into 20 bars; top each with a walnut half. Yield: 20 bars.

    Is Canned Pumpkin Cooked

  • 1 decade ago

You may want to find a recipe for a no-bake pumpkin cheese cake. Canned pumpkin is baked so there is no worries there, but you will probably need to add something else to keep the consistancy. The cool whip may do the trick, but I'd do a recipe search to make sure. The last thing you want is for the pie to fall apart!

You can use pumpkin out of the can but I think I would use a recipe to make your cheesecake. Try looking on the jello package for ideas or go to their web site for recipes or do a web search.

Canned pumpkin is already cooked so a baby could probably eat it. If it were raw, you would certainly know it from the texture and taste.

well, it is already cooked, but it wouldn't matter if it wasn't because it isn't like meat or chicken, it's ok to eat raw. But in any case, it's pre-cooked, so you can just mix it in. no problem.
