2 year old boxer in heat?

I have a 2 year old boxer that is in heat. We had to seperate her from our other 6 month old boxer because they were at my parent's and I didn't want there male pug mating with her. So she's been here for a few days and hasn't been eating very well. So I thought maybe she just didn't like the dog food. She was on purina puppy chow. So then I switched her to Kibbles and bits today. I gave it to her and she pretty much inhaled it. She loved it! So I thought awesome that is good she's eating now. Well then about 5 or 6 hours later she starts puking. Just a little bit but still I think it made her sick to her stomach. So the question is do you think she wasn't eating because she was in heat or because she misses the other boxer? Any other suggestions would be great too! I feel so bad for her now. Also I don't want any suggestions from ppl that are going to be rude about me feeding my dog food from walmart. Sorry but I just can't afford to pay ridiculous amounts of money for the "good" dog food. Thanks!

Update:

Ok yea I probably should've split the food up half and half or something but I didn't have any of the other food left. I'm not going to give her any more of that kibbles and bits. The only reason I got it was because that is what my friend feeds hers and I thought she might like it better. She has had purina since she was a pup so I'm just going to put her back on that. Also the reason she was on purina puppy chow was because she was so thin. She had parvo at 6 weeks old and only 2 out of the litter survived. So maybe this is why she has always been so thin? Maybe not....but the vet said just to put her on the puppy chow because it has milk in it to help thicken her up. I would be willing to get higher quality food but there are no places near where I live that sell the high quality stuff, not even the vet offices.(small town) So if I could order it offline or something what would be a good quality food?

Update 2:

Why do ppl have to be so rude about it seriously? It is none of your business and I didn't ask for all the crap....please take it somewhere else if all your going to do is complain. Inform me if you want! But don't be rude about it!! I am not going to get a 2 year old boxer spayed the risk of problems is much higher and I love my baby and don't want to see something happen to her! SO GET LOST!!!!!!!!

Update 3:

by the way no one ever said anything about breeding. The 6 month old pup is also a female. I would have brought the pup as well however my husband is in Iraq for 2 more weeks and I can't deal with a dog, a puppy, AND our 7 month old son on my own. It's a little to tough...

You can't pay for good dog food, but you can pay to breed her? That make SO much sense. Duh.

I pay $28.00 a month on a *very* high quality dog food, for three dogs, so don't even give me that stupid excuse.

You are clearly misinformed about owning dogs, so get the ***** spayed, and save the world from your ignorance.

And she wasn't eating because she was in a new environment. Why was a two year old boxer on puppy chow?

Ok i know what you are going through. My 7 year old female boxer is still not spayed and whenever she goes into heat, she pukes. Or if she inhales water or food, she pukes too. I am a boxer lover and whatever you choice may be on spaying, thats your choice. dont listen to these people harping you on spaying your dog. I dont pay no mind to them either..its my choice. But enough of the spaying thing, i know what you feel and i feed my dogs purina kibbles mini chunks. they love it! I have fed my dogs purina for many years and they love it. The vet even says its a good dog food so i dont know what these people are talking about. But i hope things get better and god bless you and your family

honestly, spay the dog. if you cannot afford good food, you cannot afford appropriate vet care for a pregnant dog, much less pups. If you can't do it right, don't do it.

any experienced boxer person would know (and if you plan to breed them, you should be reading up now) that they have sensitive systems and not weaning them from one food to another can cause upset stomach.

Why was a 2yr old on puppy chow though? Puppy Chow is not mean to an adult dog. You need to purchase an age-appropriate food for her.

She may have inhaled it, but this also means she didn't chew.

Try small portions every few hours until her stomach gets used to the change. In the meantime, I have given boiled chicken cut up in white rice to mine when their stomachs are upset.

It could be that your boxer is in heat. My chow would get a little weird about food when she went into heat, and would sometimes puke. If it doesn't stop, get her checked, always better safe than sorry. And don't feel bad about where you get her food, dogs can thrive on the cheap stuff too. I once had a woman inform me that the food I was feeding my lab had a lot of sawdust in it, and I was all worried until I got home from work that day to find him eating a rotten tree branch.

Yeah it's probably the fact that she was in heat, that made her not eat as much.. Puking was caused by bad dog food.. Good quality food is not more expensive in the long run cause dogs eat far less of it.. A good quality food for a boxer say, they are going to eat 3 - 3 1/2 cups a day.. Your crappy foods would recommend that you feed 5-8 cups a day.. See the difference ?

She probably puked because of the abrupt change in dog food. Usually food switches need to be gradual for the dog to adjust.

Is there a reason you haven't spayed her? I'd suggest keeping her away from other dogs and setting an appointment for her to be spayed.

EDIT: spaying a 2 year old boxer is not complicated, nor does it cause problems. It will actually solve a lot of your issues. I don't know where you got information that it's dangerous to spay a boxer?

I am sure she just misses her buddy and being home, plus going through the heat. Did you slowly switch the dog food? Try mixing in a little high quality canned food. I am also sure you read on here that even though some dogs may love Kibbles and Bits, Beneful, (they are loaded with dyes), etc, it is like fast food is for us, not good. We all understand the tough economic times. Have you looked into something like Canidae, Chicken Soup For The Dog Lovers Soul (For The Puppy Lovers Soul for your six month old), something like that (they are still high quality but not as pricey as some). If you have to choose a Wal-Mart brand why not Purina ONE/Pro Plan, IAMS. Although with any grocery brand their is tons of fillers in the food like wheat, corn.

Ad On: I also understand the small town thing (no Pet-Smart Petco :(. Do you have a TSC (Tractor Supply), they have Blue Buffalo.

Ad On: Please send my thanks to your husband! Also thank you to you and your family. I know its tough having someone over there.

You should always change a dog's food gradually by adding the new food to the old food and gradually increasing the ratio of new food to old food. Changing it all at once can cause stomach upset.

She is fine. If she is puking, its because she is in heat.

    And please

    get your dog spayed!!!
