What is a good size for a blanket for a baby-doll?

I'm making some doll blankets for my daughter but I'm exactly sure on what size they should be.

From my mommy experience and from what I remember from when I was little, I think receiving blanket size is best--about 3 feet by 3 feet. Definitely make the blankets square. I hated my rectangular blankets because they didn't swaddle the dolls very easily. Sounds like fun--what a lucky little girl!

Considering a baby blanket is about a yard square and the babe is only like 18 inches long to begin with. You should think in terms of how much of the doll your daughter wants to cover with the blanket. Does she want to wrap it like a real baby? Does she just want to spread the blanket over it like on a bed?

I usually make the doll quilts about 2 feet square. That is for a doll about 18 inches tall.

I don't see it any different than a teddy bear or a blanket. And lots of little boys are attached to teddy bears or blankets. I know my nephew who is almost four now is very attached to some of his stuffed animals. He has a tiger and an bear that is always with him. And this child is a very masculine boy. The plays ball with all the teenagers in my BIL youth group at church. So I think it is just normal development. Actually I would love it if my almost three year old daughter would get attached to something like that. She never has really taken to a "lovey" or a doll and thus she really relies on my husband and I for comfort in all situations.

Big enough to cover the doll.
