Windows Vista vs XP...what's your opinion? Computer experts only, please! ?

The thing is I have a Vista laptop and an XP desk top. In my experience Vista is so much better than XP. I want to know your input on this. Someone told me that Vista will be off the market soon...what's the deal? and if so, what happens with the Vista I own? and another question....which is faster a desktop or a laptop? I ask because someone told me laptops are faster.....mmmm.....I have both and my laptop is faster than my desktop...just want to know . Thanks for all replies...

I am not an computer expert by the way......that's why I need your input...

Tell your friend he is an idiot.Vista is the future and the new operating system windows 7 is Vista without the annoyances that everyone was whining.Vista is far superior to XP as any OS is superior to the one that is been replaced. This is the reason the release new operating systems, more stability more power more features more security and Vista has all that.As for desktop vs laptop, desktops have more power and upgrade ability. What is faster depends on the maintenance status ans the quality of the hardware in each machine.

Vista will not be off the market for a long time. I know this because XP is still being sold and Service Pack 3 was the last one. In my opinion I think that Vista is better than XP if you have the right hardware. Vista will still be supported for a long time just like XP is still being supported. To correct the first answerer, Vienna is the codename of the next OS, and the official name is called Windows 7. Windows 7, based on the testers, is a massive improvement over Vista in every aspect from boot time to hardware and compatibility. Finally, desktops can be faster than some laptops and laptops can be faster than some desktops, it all depends on the hardware that is inside. There are too many variables involved to pick one.

    Vista vs. XP:

Vista - It offers the next generation of computing options. Vista is more compatible with upcoming hardware.

XP - More stable. More compatible with current hardware/software.

If you have an older PC, XP is going to be your best option for the time being. Vista uses too many resources to run optimally.

If you have a newer PC with better hardware, Vista will be your better option.

    Laptop vs. PC:

There really is no straightforward answer for this question. You have to think of desktops and laptops as being basically the same thing, except the laptop is a smaller version. Desktops are traditionally faster, but if you have a laptop from 2008, and a desktop from 2006, the laptop is going to be much faster.

I hope that answers your question.

*Edit* - Why do I have 3 thumbs down for this? I think I gave a fair answer.

I would definitely rather have a Vista, my computer was originally a vista but since Vista is a gaming no no (im a gamer), i reformatted it to XP. months later i really regret doing it. My dad has a vista and im in love with it. It feels soooo smooth for some reason! i cant even describe the feeling of vista compared to XP.

I've had vista on my new hp notebook since I bought it a year ago. Speed depends on the processor not whether its a desktop or notebook. Due to the faster processors needing huge heatsinks, desktops can be faster. I can't imagine buying another desktop, notebooks are much more useful. I have my 17" hp notebook hooked to a 20" external monitor and extermal keyboard. Great to take with me on travel and to restaurants when I meet clients.

Depends on what you want. If you have a mid range computer stick with XP, if you have a good a advanced computer get Vista. But they are both the same in my opinion. Vista will soon be off the market due to the fact that Microsoft is already working in their new Windows version, Windows 7. But that "soon" won't be anytime soon.

OK, Vista is nice, but slow, very slow. XP is faster, so that's why your laptop runs faster. Although it also depends on hardware, of course that if you have an old laptop, XP will also be slow. But anyway, Vista is always slower than XP. Now, It's said that next year Windows 7 will be released. I don't have many data about it, I know it's faster than Vista, but nothing else. BTW, I bought a laptop when vista was about to be released, and it came with XP. I could have upgraded to vista, but I didn't. Instead I downloaded some skins and my XP looks as nice as vista, but is faster and I also added some security freeware that makes it safer.

  • Well, I think the vista is really good once to get how to use it well. That takes a long time, but if you don't want to figure every thing out you should stay with xp. More of the default or common things are better on the vista, but special downloads and stuff (games, videos, etc.....)don't work very well on it.

This question expose the ignorance of the average user.Xp is better than Vista?? Dear lord. Anyway I'm tired of fighting with people that have no clue about computers and are in love with a dead OS.I copy "ikaros" answer.

Everyone has their own opinions. If you are an average or beginning computer user you may enjoy MAC or Vista more. If you like getting more into the system and being hands on, you may like *nix or XP better.

It doesn't really matter what other peoples opinions are, you should use what you like the best.
