Why is the process of applying to join a motorcycle club called "striking"?

Update:

Edit: OK, so "apply" is the wrong word, but you know what I mean - part of the process of becoming a member.

I'd still like to know *why* it's called "striking" (at least in Canada).

I have not seen this so i looked it up, It was on a UK motorcycle club and noted in brief that a person trying to become a member but not yet a member and not allowed to wear the colors was a striking member/person. The person was striking to become a member.

It does not explain how that term came about, and I have been in a few clubs myself and have never heard that term in the USA.

I put it to you that it's a local term.

You must be invited you can't apply.A striker is a member above prospect and just below a patch holder.

i think that is a club thing with your group. my club taps you... you don't "apply"

i've been considered prospect for 5 years, and the patched club members have voted to patch me, but I can't since i've moved.... so i'm now waiting on the 3 closest chapters to vote on me to see if i can be patched nomad
