Is there a difference between a person being Latino or Hispanic?

I work with a lot of people that speak spanish from different countries. Some say they are Hispanic and some say they are Latino.Without asking everyone where they are from ...I was wondering if certain people are one or the other.

    Yes.

Hispanic means spanish speaking people, so basically anyone who speaks Spanish can be considered Hispanic.

Latinos are people of Latin descent or who are from Latin America.

Hispanic and Latino aren't the same. Most Latinos I know including myself just call ourselves Latino/Latina....Hispanic to me is just a PC term kind of like African American, most blacks in America don't call themselves African American they just call themselves black, that's how it is among Latinos.

Not necessarily all Spanish speaking people are Hispanic or Latin American.

Spanish from Spain are from Europe who are considered Latin European. Same as Portuguese, Italians and French, who are also Latin European. There is no difference between Latino from South America and Hispanics, they are both the same but different terms.

i do not like the word Hispanic because the government gave us that name it was President Nixon. what gives them the right to give us that name. i like Latino because our same race started to use that name. why does the government or a white person always gives minority names like dogs. i like Latino or brown
