How can I stregnthen my legs over the Winter?
Hi, I run Cross Country, and the season just ended last week. I would like to keep my legs in shape for the Winter, but where I live it gets very cold, and almost impossible to run during the day. Is there any way I could keep them fit over the Winter, and ready for Spring?

You can use a stationary bike, tread mill, and a Nordic track like exercise machine. Each will exercise different muscles and the tread mill and Nordic track will allow you to exercise muscles required for balance. Just using a stationary bike will only exercise the main muscles.
I'd focus on monitoring your heart rate. Keep it in a comfortable aerobic zone.

yeah, red sox rocks!!! im a fan of red sox. :D
anyway, u can do calf-raises, which u stand on the edge of a stair: your toes on the edge while the rest of your feet are in air. then, push yourself up only with your toes' muscles - was supposed to help strengthen your calves/legs. you can also do lunges by taking very big steps (about three feet for the distance between each of your feet) with your knee almost touching the ground every time u take a step - strengthens your thighs. oh, and u can do frogs :D - they are hard! especially when u are doing for 50 times! u have to crouch or squat on the ground, then jump into the air, then crouch on the floor again with your hands touching the ground, then jump into the air, and keep doing that.... until your thighs are tired - frogs are really tough! you can also pretend u are sitting on a chair but u are not; u are "sitting" in mid-air - this strengthens your thighs and knees (i think).
good luck with cross country!

Running is the best thing you can do to help you in running, but if that's not reasonable for you then weight lifting is the next best option. There are probably a wealth of runner lifting programs online that you can Google.
