Info about 2003-2004 Crown Vic police interceptor?
Hi! Planning to purchase Crown Victoria next month and since the police interceptor is faster, cheaper and many available in my area with low miles I was thinking to get one instead of regular Crown Vic. I live in Canada but think it is same package in US. I'm mechanic and plan to upgrade the car later as I have money since I would like to use it for weekend drag racing eventually but for now will just be using it to go to work and back. I just wonder does it have a posi rear end in it and what is the gear ratio? Does it get the same gas mileage as a regular Crown Vic? What is the highway gas mileage? If anyone owns one or knows about them could you just point out all the differences for me. Also is the cam the same as stock Crown VIc? Do they have speed governor? I saw a performer chip on one site that said it could add 100HP to an interceptor....I have my doubts anyone know the truth on that? I had a 92 Crown Vic before an know it had a factory performance package but was never sure if it was a police package or not........Thanks in advance and sorry I asked so many questions!

In truth the P71 Vics aren't much faster than the regular ones. They share the same engine, and if you find a civilian CV with the "Handling Package" it already has alot of the P71 equipment (dual exhaust, fatter tires, beefier torque converter, 3.27 rear end,,better radiator and tranny cooler, better suspension, etc.) The only big differences Between a P71 and Vic w/ Handling package, is the frame is reinforced on the P71, the wiring is different, and the alternator is better. Obviously the regular CV will have much more in the way of creature comforts. The later P71's 2004-up (I think) could be had with 3.55 gears and limited slip diff, while the CV w'handling pkg, just made due with the 3.27 rear end.

I own a 2001 CVPI. It is a 4.6L V8, and a very fast car. If its a rather short race the BMW will most likely win. Crown Vics are large, heavy cars so they just simply do not accelerate as quickly as a BMW will. BUT, once that CVPI hits top gear, good luck. Not to mention his CVPI may still have a mod chip in it that the police use. It increases acceleration after it hits 60mph
