nikon d40 question and lenses?
circuit city is running a sale which includes the nikon d40 with 55-200mm telephoto lens and the 18-55mm lens for $486 is this a bargain and do I need both lenses

That is a good kit price for that camera and the lenses. If you do much photography at all you will be happy to have the 55-200 lens and that lens alone normally goes for around 250 and with this kit prce you are basically getting it free. The D40 is a good camera I have it and the D300 and when I am shooting for fun I often grab the D40. I hope you enjoy it

You could start out with just the 18-55mm lens but a lot of people add the 55-200mm lens (or something similar) after a while anyway. It lets you zoom in a a bit more for sports, candids, and that sort of stuff. So while you don't strictly need the second lens, for that price I'd grab it.

Yes, Amazon is current selling it for $599. The only thing you might want is the 55-200 to have VR, but its a great buy anyway.
