Yes. Truck drivers are spoiled because they are in high demand and will ALWAYS be in high demand. Drivers will be in high demand because everything in stores are delivered by trucks and it is virtually impossible to out-source driving jobs.
A CDL (Commercial drivers license) will stay with you forever so if you don't stay with it, you will be able to fall back on it in the future. It adds security and is an easy job for people coming back out of retirement. (You know, the people who lost their Social Security, Pension, or 401K)
Also, since the DOT has become strict after 9/11, truck drivers who are illegal aliens are getting rooted out of the system. People with legal residency and clean records are in high demand.
You will make twice as much as taxi drivers with 1/2 as much effort.
Good luck!

That is almost the perfect job for an adventurer...to travel, see the sights, sit on your ***, and stop for the occasional food rest.
But I would NOT suggest this job if you have a family. You would be called in at any point in time, and a lot of the time It's overnight. You are required to know what you are doing in the event that your truck breaks down, and driving one of those babys is much different than a taxi. But since you have the experience with that it shouldnt be hard to get that job.
But like I said, if you have a family, they come first.

this can be an excellent job for someone who likes to drive. it doesn't take much time t get your cdl and if you go through a school they can usually place you with a company. the down side is that you will have to drive otr for at least 2 yrs before you will be eligible for a local or regional job. but the trucking industry is something that will always be in demand.
