Sleeping Pills. I have been taking them every (school) night for a while now... What can I do/Am i dependent?

Here's the story.

If I do not take a sleeping pill I will literally be rolling around in my bed, awake, until 4-5 AM.

This is because my mind does NOT turn off. My body can be exhausted but my mind is always thinking. I have been taking either Tylenol PM/Unisom irregularly for years, and now regularly for the past 2 years.

I know it is unhealthy and not good for my system but it's either I take a pill or end up staying up til' 4 AM when I need to get up early for classes the next day, so the pill seems the better option.

I'd really like to just get off them all together but I can't risk the possibility of being up that late. I think some of it has to do with my education as I am pre-med so I do work all day at school and as soon as I get home all I do is homework until bed. My mind is constantly going which is why I think I have trouble sleeping.

What can I do?

    1) Try getting into a routine, do the exact same thing before bed every night (brush teeth, brush hair, take a bath, go to bed)

    2) Do not consume any caffine after noon.

    3) Drink warm milk or herbal tea.

    4) Do not read, watch television, or do anything other than sleeping in your bed.

Those are just a few of the things that have helped me. Good luck!

Well.. when i smoke some dank, I can get to sleep pretty damn easy and a damn good night of sleep it is :). Maybe you should try smoking a few hours before you go to bed, that might solve your problem
