Terry Butcher.What a prat!?

Who thinks Terry Butcher should be reprimanded for his antics. A fully grown man and he can't even shake hands with Maradonna. This was because of what happened twenty odd years ago when he was with england. He would do well to remember that he is with Scotland now. Do you think he should go back down south and get involved in English football. A disgrace to the good Scottish name!!

Before the match when he said he didn't know if he would shake hands or not I thought he would - like you say he's with Scotland now. I respect his decision as personal though and I don't think he should be reprimanded. The handshake is all about fair play and last time Butcher met Maradonna the little scally was cheating him and in all the years since he has shown no remorse and has only relatively recently even stopped lying about the incident. The handshake should remain a personal gesture and not be dictated by authority. Look what happened when in 1938 the British ambassador gave instructions to the England team..

I think Butcher has made himself look a bit silly over this, and don't know what actually happened last night at the end of it all. Let's face it though, the Scottish fans also look pathetic, celebrating not something their own team has achieved, nor even a piece of brilliant skill by Maradona in the same match, but a goal that should never have even been given.

    Have you forgotten Joe Jordan?

Oh yes, and Pat, Scotland went to the finals exactly twice when England weren't there. Can you count the times when it was the other way round? I won't even mention Iran, Peru and Costa Rica.

How does it feel to be the only country from the British Isles that has never reached the last 8 of a World Cup tournament?

I'm a Rangers and Scotland fan,and always rated Butcher as a player and a person. However,i reckon he's made a right prat of himself this time.

Mmm... QPR... how about 30 odd years ago, when Scotland regularly went to the finals, when England didn't. I suppose that after the 2002 World Cup and Argentina's exit after a game in dubious circumstances. Their team won't be shaking hands with Michael Owen.

Maybe that was the year that Argentina showed 'Tournament Form' gradually improving to take the World Cup in Style, all brought low by the 'Dive of Owen'...

I would shake maradonas hand for the simple fact that he really was one of footballs greatest talents. Butcher is with Scotland now, so he should forget what maradona did to England.

Maybe he's just got some balls about him and doesn't want to show respect to a known drugs and arms dealer, whose career was blighted by incidences of match rigging, violent conduct and spells in jail (as well as the hand of god mullarky).

It's all well and good having a bit of banter about a guy who was talented enough to make a laughing stock of the whole England back line, but pick somebody who isn't such a complete disgrace, eh?

It's not like other players (who aren't organised crime barons in their spare time) haven't embarrassed our lot over the years!

  • Yes, the act of a prat. The real question is what is a guy who is only one bloody bandage away from being totally forgettable, doing up there in Scotland with you national team. Is he really the best you could attract?

  • Fully grown man, yes. You have to remember these guys live for football. Their brains haven't matured at the same rate as their bodies.

Hence as adults they "play" football. Give him a break, he just doesn't know any better.

He is a prat indeed, can we believe him and his kind now when they say they are against bigotry? It shows the mentality of these individuals running around with chips on their shoulder and how they have deep seated beliefs that go beyond comprehension and embarrass a nation.
