Do I buy an xBox 360 or a PS3? Techincal answers prefered!?
I've borrowed a friends xBox recently and it was a lot of fun. I got hooked on GTA4!! He's taken it back again now and I'm left with the dilema of whether to buy an xBox or a PS3!
I've got a blueray player already so this decision is purely from the gaming point of view!!
Do I get an xBox (which allows me to take my profile off my friends xBox and continue GTA4 where I left off - about 25% into the game) or start the game from stratch on a PS3?!? If an xBox is the better option, which one should I get (arcade, normal or elite)?!?
What other good and bad points do both consols have?

The PS3 has some strong points:
Much better processing/video power compared to the xbox 360.
Most exclusives stay exclusive whereas most Xbox 360 exclusives make their way to the PC.
Better Media Center capabilities (streaming media from your PC to attached TV. Also you can install any size laptop drive in your PS3 and store movies and such straight onto it. Also can run Linux.)
Better Controller (Purely my opinion, not a stated fact)
The Xbox360 has strong points as well:
More popularity (more units have been sold of the Xbox360 than the PS3. More of your friends will be online)
Better Online service than PS3 with Xbox LIVE.
As cheap as $199
PS3 Cons:
Not as many users.
$$$
Not a huge library of games, but enough to keep you occupied.
Xbox360 Cons:
Must pay to play online with an Xbox LIVE subscription card.
Most exclusives don't stay that way.
Red Ring of Death issues (might be resolved, unsure.)
All in all, it depends on which exclusives you prefer. Like i said though, most exclusives (Gears of War, Halo, Mass Effect) are on the PC or will be soon.

listen ill make it short yet sweet. Xbox 360- solid console with many cool unique titles. seems to also be stealing different Ps3's exclusives at present. Runs nicely with a a lot less probability of failing now with the hot warmth sink. wonderful on line play with very nearly each and every sport.solid market to receive all of your 360 desires and extra. only a touch expensive at the same time as it is composed of on line provider and products in spite of the undeniable fact that it quite is microsoft for you :) PS3- My sony is doing an exceedingly solid pastime with there equipment. no longer many fails or issues known, yet there nevertheless are some going on the following and there. very nearly an analogous portraits for video games because the 360. some are more desirable, some are worse, in basic terms relies upon on the way you seem at. in basic terms released the hot domicile characteristic which many were searching ahead too. the single element that stands proud the most is loose on line play with the ps3, i in basic terms want it became as consistant because the 360's on line play. So its up too you.

I would get the PS3. Even if you have a Bulu-Ray player, you could sell that to get the PS3, and probably even make a profit.
I use my PS3 as a media center in the house.
-Playing DVD'S,
-Blu-Ray's,
-CD's,
-Streaming video from the internet,
-Browsing and streaming pictures, music and video's from all the computers in the house.
That last point is really what makes the PS3 superior in my opinion. Also, the online function is FREE.
You should do a google search to see what games are exclusive for both consoles, and take this into consideration.
At the end of the day this is all about preference as there are different strong selling points for both consoles.

on the one hand you say you want a console purely from a gaming point of view and on the other you ask us which one. Surely the decision should be fairly easy: xbox 360 any day
the PS3 has got no (well hardly any) good games and especially if you don't care about blueray cos you've already got a player.
Which one to get entirely depends on your budget (although I love the elite), however, with you also considering a PS3 it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
enjoy!
edit:
Red Ring of Death was mostly a problem with early consoles and yes, Microsoft fixes them.

I have both consoles and i would suggest the ps3 because the xbox 360 can be very unreliable. My 360's disk drive fail and i Had to send it back to microsoft. They sent me a new one but it Red Ringed again recently and i had to send it back to microsoft. The ps3 has never quit on me and you get the six axis controllers that makes the Controller tilt sensitive. You can also install Linux on your PS3.

I would get a ps3 because they have better graphics, more power, more memory (except from the elite). Xbox 360's always break, most of my friends have had to send theirs off to Microsoft to get fixed. PS3 controllers are rechargeable whereas Xbox's controllers require batteries. I think the PS3 is just a better console.
