The rear wall of my property is on the boundary to my neighbour. I need to gain access to his garden in order to carry out maintenance on my gutter. He is refusing me entry to do so. Is it illegal for him to do this?

I've got 10 HDDs that I don't know what to do with! I want to throw them away for recycling, but they are from our company computers and I'm paranoid about data theft.

1) I either need to send them off to get shredded to permanently destroy them.

2) I need someone to recommend some formatting/shredding software that completely destroys all data on the drives before giving them to some sort of charity computer service maybe...

I've just inherited an old air compressor from a friend of the family who passed away last year. He used to use it for spray painting but I would like to know if it's powerful enough to use air tools with it. It's pretty big but there's no horse power or flow rate stamped on the side of it.

Is there any device I can use to work out the flow rate or horse power of it?

The manufacturer of the compressor tried to help but couldn't provide any information...

I'm getting more and more weary that we aren't backing up our computers at work and that I really need to find a good solution that doesn't cost a fortune, yet still leaves the data readily available for quick access...

We're only a small budget so I don't really want to buy a tape drive etc. (Aren't they old tech now anyway?)

Is it worth getting a Blueray Recorder? some sort of NAS? Stick to DVD-Rs?

Do hard drives keep the data on them for many years even if they aren't plugged in? Can they be kept in box without the data deteriorating?

PS - We've got about 500GB to backup!! so that's a LOT of DVD-Rs... hence wondering if a couple of 1TB HDDs are the way to go!!!

I was woken up early last week by the cat and happened to look out of the window to see that everything was literally glowing pink! It was amazing! I guess it was near sunrise or just before I guess and the sky was a brilliant salmon pink colour... I didn't have my camera else I would have taken a picture!! :o(

I'd like to be prepared next time with the camera so would like to know what weather to look out for?!

The saying goes "red sky in the morning, Shepherds warning"... Does that mean I need to keep an eye out for approaching storms after nice weather?!

I'm getting into photography and have bought a Canon EOS 40D... I want to buy some new lenses for it but am confused about apertures...

EXAMPLE: Canon make these two lenses: EF 70-200mm f2.8 IS L USM and EF 70-200mm f4 L IS USM...

The only difference between them (other than the price of course) is this f stop value...

I understand the concept that having a larger aperture lets more light in therefore better/sharper pictures... Is that the only reason to get the more expensive, larger aperture lens?

Is getting a larger aperture more important for long focal lenses (200mm+ for example) than using wider lenses (24mm eg)

So many questions, needs lots of answers! and any advice on all this technical stuff would be a great help - even if it's off topic! :o)

Simple question but try and BE ORIGINAL!!!... i.e. The Grand Canyon is obviously on my list already... as is general Casino stuff... I'm fed up with being single... I've been told on so many oasions that I'm funny, exciting, fun, confident, successful, etc, etc... All the things that girls SAY they are after in a Man... Oh until on little thing comes up... I'm fat... Yes that's right... Fat...

So why don't girls just stop with the piss take and just get to the point from the start... The fact that despite saying all the things above, they don't actually care about anything... Just so long as the bloke is "hot" then everything is fine... even if he's abusive or generally a tw*t, "one of the lads" etc etc...

Before people find it hillarious to add "go on a diet" comments below, I'd like to say that so far I've lost 2 stone and yes I still have another 6 to go so aren't planning on stopping yet...

I need to fix a background in an element so it won't move when you scroll the text in it...

I used the background-attachment: fixed; line but that fixes the background image to the top left corner of the browser window, not to the actual element in question... So now the background, which used to fit the element perfectly is now way off line...

I've also tried using background-position: xpx ypx; command which works, but not if you alter the size of the browser window/desktop resolution...

What am I doing wrong and how can it be fixed?!?

Does anyone know how I can get the little instects out of my LCD monitor?!?! I've tried taking it apart but it's impossible...

They're driving me mad! There's 3 of them all crawling around... Actually I think one has died and it's stuck right in the middle of the screen and it's annoying the hell out of me!

Some Background info:

My general daily exercise consists of walking the dog twice a day (on sandy beach) for about 45mins each time...

I'm going skiing in 3 weeks time and for the past two weeks I've been stepping up the exercise of my legs and arms by using my Rowing maching and Crosstrainer too (both of which I've not been using recently)...

Everything has been going fine... My legs feel much better, ready for skiing, but I went at it a little hard on Sunday (2days ago) and my thighs were REALLY painful. I had a rest day yesterday (just did the dog walking part) and was going to get back on the rower & crosstrainer tonight but the trouble is, my thighs are still really hurting...

The Question:

I don't know if I should rest until they stop hurting, or just take the "no pain no gain" approach and get on it again today?

I'm after some sort of clarification as to what I've had done so far on a tooth and what I've got to look forward to in the future - so I can prepare myself a little for it!!

I've got a bad tooth... It's the 3rd tooth from the back on the left side, bottom row... (First molar I guess?)

It's been x-rayed 4days ago and found to have an infection at the base of the root. I've been on antibios for the past 5 days to clear up the infection and have juat been to the dentist again.

This visit, he did some drilling (and cleaning I guess?) and I'm assuming drained off any left over infection? (he mentioned something about that anyway) He also said that only half the tooth has died? so that's why it's so painful... Then he put in what I assume is a temporary filling? It's white and really soft...

I've got to go back for a further two visits... a) I'm wondering if I need to do anything specific to look after this really soft filling and b) I'm just wondering what those visits will envolve really...

I'm gussing the next one (in two weeks) is the big one where he'll do lots more drilling right down the canal (or canals?) and do a full root canal filling? I guess it's going to hurt a lot...

What's the thrid visit going to be for? A check-up? Or is the root canal filling done in two stages as well?

Ok, so say you've got two 300 x 300 elements/divs on the screen... The first element/div has a couple of links in it - something like:

<a href="new page 1">new page 1</a>

and

<a href="new page 2">new page 2</a>

... Is there any way to use this system to just alter the information (txt/background image etc) in the other 300 x 300 element/div on the screen rather than load up a new page altogether??

Does that make sense?

Has it got something to do with frames or something? Or is that something totally different!?

Rather than have all my CSS in the HTML doc, I know you can link to if as a separate file but I don't know what the correct syntax is! I've been scouring W3 tutorials and they don't seem to mention how to do it!

i.e. If, for example, you've got the following:

Is there any way to make the whole 300x50 button link to another page AND also, change colour when you roll over it with the mouse??

I've borrowed a friends xBox recently and it was a lot of fun. I got hooked on GTA4!! He's taken it back again now and I'm left with the dilema of whether to buy an xBox or a PS3!

I've got a blueray player already so this decision is purely from the gaming point of view!!

Do I get an xBox (which allows me to take my profile off my friends xBox and continue GTA4 where I left off - about 25% into the game) or start the game from stratch on a PS3?!? If an xBox is the better option, which one should I get (arcade, normal or elite)?!?

What other good and bad points do both consols have?
