How do you deal with an evil neighbor?

This is a sticky situation. In August one of my neighbors called the city on another about some construction that they were doing on her property. Lets call the first one who called Joe and the lady Sue. Sue didn't have the proper paperwork for the improvement and had to remove it. Sue then learned that her front fence was encroaching on city property along with the rest of the block. She moved her fence back and then called the city on the rest of the block. Now there are more people involved. Before she moved her fence many of the other homeowners asked her nicely to reconsider doing this. She told everyone that she didn't care who else suffered as long as she gets to get even with Joe. Now all of the homeowners, there are more since she now has complained about the houses along the side street, are working with the city {Bronx, NY} to fix this amicably but we were just told that this lady calls at least once a day every day to complain. This constant barrage of complaints are hurting all of the homeowners. Does anybody know how we can get this evil lady to stop messing with us. Can we get a lawyer and sue her as a group for harassment? We don't want to do anything illegal or immoral but we can only take so much. What should we do? Any legal advise would be appreciated. Please only give me serious answers and don't tell me to kill her or burn down her house or anything else stupid. If you want to leave a funny answeer please go somewhere else. Thank you in advance. Any help would be appreciated. Peace.

Honestly, the best thing to do is just comply with the city requirements and don't do anything else to irritate this vengeful woman. Maybe you should all try to convince Joe to apologize to Sue, since he started it with his complaining. Maybe she would accept his apology (probably wishful thinking at this point) and back off. Any retaliation will only cause more neighborhood drama, so it's really best to just do what you have to do and nothing more.

You are in a sticky jam indeed.

Get a lawyer and sue her for harassment? Doubtful for your post makes it sound like she's calling the city and not the homeowners...and she has the right to make these calls to them.

You all are working with the city and just keep doing so. As long as you are in communication with them to get this worked out you should be okay.

However, you stated that the complaints she makes to them are hurting you all but you didn't say how. My question is who put up the fences to begin with? Builder? Homeowners? City?

If you want true legal advice this is not the place to get it though and you should find a local attorney who will give you an hour free consultation on the matter.

Good luck with it...and with her! Any chance she'll move soon? :)

At some point the city will catch on to what she is doing, if they haven't already, and start to disregard her. Do not start a lawsuit unless you want this to drag on for years instead of months, because she will counter-sue and there will be a much more expensive barrage of problems going on.

She is being ridiculous, there is no doubt about that, but this is what happens when you return rudeness with rudeness. I would just make sure your property is up to par and stay out of the situation. The city will get tired of dealing with her soon enough and the ostracism she will feel from every last neighbor will probably be punishment enough for her when she doesn't get invited to barbeques, parties or any kind of neighborhood event.

Whatever you do, don't take any legal advice you may receive on YA! Consult an attorney as a group and see what your options are, but don't expect much. Basically she is in her right to complain if properties aren't in accordance with law. Since she pays taxes on her property, they have to listen to her. But you have the same rights. There may be some grandfather clause written in the city code about the placement of the fences if they were there before the property was bought by the most recent owner, but like I said, consult an attorney.

You are in a tough spot. It's a shame the city can't do something about her constant calling. But, she has the right to do that I guess. You can get a lawyer if her complaints are false and malicious, but I don't think it will get you anywhere really. Stay in compliance and steer clear of this lady. I am sure she lost some really good neighbors because of her selfishness.

Unfortunately you have no recourse against her, unless she is harassing you personally. I can see her side, if she has to follow the rules then everybody else has to as well.

Go to a city council meeting and ask for a variance, where you can leave the fence until the city needs to access the area. Then she can't complain.

Find something that she won't want to change that goes against city requirements, and hold it over her head as collateral. If that works then keep an eye out for more things to use as leverage, because she sounds like shell do the same. look at it like a personal cold war

you recognize regardless of in case you do spend a lot on a surveillance digicam and be waiting to seize her putting particularly rubbish on your backyard, i do no longer think of the police being very attracted to some thing that stupid and probable the worst which will take place regardless of in case you do get the police to view your digicam pictures may well be in basic terms a warning for her to no longer do it back. which may make her even angrier with you and reason her to take much greater revenge in worse techniques than some rubbish on your backyard because of the fact she sounds like an rather vengeful type of person, i might in simple terms forget approximately it interior the desire she gets bored and reveals somebody else to harass.
