why is this jacket dry clean only?
i got a jacket at goodwill, it feels a little like a jean jacket but is dark khaki in color. it says 100% cotton, and dry clean only. why would something that is 100% cotton need to be dry clean only? would having little leather tabs with velcro be the only reason? could i wash it, but hang dry it?

100% cotton usually shrinks thats why they tell you dry clean just in case. you could wash it gently in tepid water and hang to dry if you want ti take the chance and don't dry by heat that will shrink and tighten it also

Not only will the fabric be an indication of the care instructions, but sometimes the construction of the garment plays a role as well. There may be some intricate stitching that could come loose if you were to launder it using conventional methods.
If you don't want to incur the expense of taking the jacket to a dry cleaner then try Dry Cleaners' Secret or Dryel. Both products are available in the laundry care aisle at the grocery store.
(I used Dryel to clean my wedding gown...and I had great results with it. Cost me $2 to clean it, the cleaners wanted $150!)

Trust the label. THere is probably more than just cotton in it if it feels like blue jean.
I suggest the dry cleaners just to be safe. Don't test the label.
