What Are Some Real Reasons For A Fan To Move On To Another Team?
I have always been a raider fan and will always be one even in these tough times.. My Brother is a flip/flop fan of the Cowboys and that just pisses me off. But I was wondering is there a real reason to stop rooting for your team? The only reason I think is if your team is taken apart and are no longer there. Anyone know a different reason?

a good friend of mine is a huge cleveland fan (i've known him for 10 years and i'm still not sure why he is) and when cleveland moved to baltimore, he quit rooting for anyone. when the browns came back in 1999, he again had his team.
i live in pittsburgh, and i still root for the pirates. as bad as they suck (16 straight losing seasons) and probably will continue to suck for another 16 more, it's my hometeam, i gotta support them.
true fans know and love their team. they know the players names, stats, history, etc. i bet you're brother doesn't know much about the cowboys. he sounds like a bandwagoner. there when they're good, gone when they're not.

Other than if your team moves to another city or ceases to exist, I say no. I think that a true football fan sticks with their team through the good and the bad. The thing to understand is that all teams go through a season of drought and even a season of success. No team stays defeated all of the time. Look at the Cardinals. Their fans had it just as bad as the Lions fans do now, and look where they are. On the verge of making the playoffs for the first time in years. My whole point is to stick it out. Now of course you do have the freedom to switch teams if you want to. But you will be forever known as the band wagon fan who switches due to popularity. Its best to stick with your team at least you will gain and keep your respect.

There are several:
The team moves to a different city.
You move to a different city and live in that other city for years.
You have college/family friends playing on a particular team (my case).
Ownership change has completely changed the face of your team over years into an entity you just don't feel you can support or represents what pleases you.

I can think of a couple. One being they leave, like the first poster said. Two, they become too thuggish, ala' the Cincinnati Bengals. I can handle losing, I can't handle 20 arrests in 3 seasons. Another is you move. In the pros, I always root for the local team, but I also follow different players around, usually from OSU or the area I live in.

The team moving to another city is the only acceptable reason. You have to stick it out, there is no other option. I'm an Atlanta Hawks fan, so I know what I'm talking about.

I agree with you. A flip flopper is not a true fan. Real fans stick to their team thru good and bad. Anybody can root for a good team.

Here is a good example I used to be cowboys fan when I was a kid until they threw Tom Landry to curbside and Jerry Jones bought the team. I've been a Dolphins fan ever since.
