What happens at death is no mystery ,So why is still taught that ,something lives on?

God, the Creator of the brain. He knows the truth, and in his Word, the Bible, he explains the condition of the dead. Its clear teaching is this: When a person dies, he ceases to exist. Death is the opposite of life. The dead do not see or hear or think. Not even one part of us survives the death of the body. We do not possess an immortal soul or spirit.

After Solomon observed that the living know that they will die, he wrote: “As for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.” He then enlarged on that basic truth by saying that the dead can neither love nor hate and that “there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in [the grave].” (Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6, 10) Similarly, Psalm 146:4 says that when a man dies, “his thoughts do perish.” We are mortal and do not survive the death of our body. The life we enjoy is like the flame of a candle. When the flame is put out, it does not go anywhere. It is simply gone. Jesus says all those in a Memorial Tomb (Gods Memory) would be resurrected.

Although Satan did tell Eve; "YOU POSITIVELY WILL NOT DIE", Is it that many still believe Him?

An Earth-Wide Deception taught in many churches of Christendom

It all started with the first lie ever told. The historical account in the Bible book of Genesis gives the details. It says: “As for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die.” (Genesis 2:17) That was Jehovah God talking to the first man, Adam. Now, compare this with Genesis 3:1-4, where Satan, speaking through the serpent, induced Eve to disobey God, saying: “You positively will not die.” So Satan contradicted what God had said. He thereby told the first lie, becoming “the father of the lie.”—John 8:44; Revelation 12:9.

But Adam and Eve did die, and so have countless millions of others. How did the liar Satan get around that? By later implanting the idea that, although the body dies, something lives on. This subsequently became a doctrine of ancient religions and was incorporated into Greek philosophy. Hence, belief in the immortality of the soul is almost universal. And to many who believe their dead loved ones are alive somewhere this is perhaps a comforting thought. However, the vital question is: Is it true?

    Is Your Soul Immortal?

The word “immortality” appears three times in the Bible, all the occurrences being in the Christian Greek Scriptures. An examination of its usage makes one thing clear: Man is not inherently immortal.

Consider, for example, the apostle Paul’s words at 1 Timothy 6:15, 16 where he describes Jesus Christ as “the King of those who rule as kings and Lord of those who rule as lords, the one alone having immortality.” So how is Jesus distinct from all other “kings” and “lords”? He is immortal; they are not.

True, immortality is promised to those of Christ’s followers who are called to reign with him in the heavens. (1 Peter 1:3, 4) Thus, at 1 Corinthians 15:53, 54, we read: “This which is mortal must put on immortality. But when . . . this which is mortal puts on immortality, then the saying will take place that is written: ‘Death is swallowed up forever.’” But notice that immortality is “put on.” It is a reward for faithful, chosen Christians. It is not something that all humans inherit.

Exactly. So many people say that the soul is immortal. Well, Ezekiel 18:4 says that the soul can die, and Matthew 10:28 states that God can destroy the soul. If something can be destroyed and can die, is it immortal? Those who think so do not understand what "immortality" means.

Hence, the Bible was right all along when it said that life is a gift God gives to the righteous, but death is a punishment. Since when did death become a transition into life in heaven or hell?

Life is existence. Death is non-existence. Hence, the Bible clearly teaches:

    "But an able-bodied man dies and lies vanquished;

And an earthling man expires, and where is he?

Man also has to lie down and does not get up.

Until heaven is no more they will not wake up,

Nor will they be aroused from their sleep." -Job 14:10, 12

Besides my inclination to quote William Shakespeare about life being a play I am sitting here wondering what the real question behind your question is. I for one certainly did not hold on to the ideas that my parents had and tried to pass on to me and my siblings. I probably would have more money today if I had acquired and hung on to their habits of thought, but that is all. When I think of all the experiences and adventures that I would have had to miss out on, well I still say `No thank you`. Would you choose to wear the same clothes for a few hundred years or more? It might get a little boring or `old hat` as they say. Personally I would prefer to take on more and more roles. Some of the ones I have played in the past preclude or prevent me from experiencing some of the others I would like to live. I wonder how I will ever get to them if not by taking to the curtains and re-entering on the other side of the stage. I want to be unlimited. I want to be free to choose. I want the whole manzana.

read the account of Lazarus at John 11:1-44 if he wasn't dead and his spirit was in a better place why would Jesus have cried and then went and resurrected him

I'd suggest you accept the reality that dead is dead.

And that the bible is just another holy book this one from a group of stone age starving shepherds... one holy book is as good as any other... and none can prove anything, since they all predate science.

I think it's remarkable that people can experience a cessation of consciousness every night even while still alive but in deep sleep, and still believe that they will be conscious after their brain rots.

A new medical study showed that there was electrical activity in the brain up to a week after the person was deceased.

The thought of nonexistence is terrible and unimaginable. It is no surprise many hide from it.
