How much do UAW members make?

The figure of $70 an hour has been mentioned a lot lately. I did some research and found that labor costs for GM are $73.26 an hour. That includes wages and benefits. So even if a UAW member is not taking home $70 an hour, they are still receiving a wage and benefit package of over $140,000 a year. By comparison, the average household income in the US is $50,000 a year according to the US census.

Anyway, I went to the UAW website to clear this up to no avail. Seriously, I would really like to know how much UAW members make, and why they think everyone but themselves need to make sacrifices to get the economy going?

Update:

Thank you 'A few quarts low' that helps, but I really would like a source I am document on by blog.

Well, from word of mouth from people I know that were UAW members, the average wage is between $30-60+/hr...before you factor in benefits and everything.

And you're correct, it does seem ridiculous that they expect everyone else (taxpayers) to have to make sacrifices while they don't. When they strike, they affect all the subsidiaries that aren't unionized. Look at what the unions and the shipping of jobs overseas or to Mexico has done to Michigan.

The news announced yesterday that it's over $82 an hour average per car. BUT judging from the begging for a Bailout they are ALL being paid about 100% too much. As far as cars, apparently they don't make much there either.

Of course the figure the Right wingers cite are bogus because those aren't salaries...they fold in benefits costs which is atypical for income figures.
