HELP!!! Itunes Library lost, but music files still on computer?

I opened by itunes and it asked me to locate an itunes library for some reason. I had around 2500 songs on my itunes, and when i opened it none of them were there. However, the music files are still on my computer. Is there any way to put them back onto itunes easily? I also changed the names of the artists and albums, so when i click on them to play in itunes they have their old names that i downloaded them with.

I found a great little free program called the iTunes Library Updater on the net. Whenever you choose to run it, it automatically updates your iTunes library adding new files and deleting non-existing files. It will scan your computer for any music files and add them to your iTunes library for you. When you run it it will make sure your library is totally up to date and synchronized at the click of a button. I love it - as iTunes does not have any native means for automatically updating the library. You have to manually discard old files, really annoying as my library quickly turned into a total mess. This program fixes that issue. Install this, run it and your library will automatically be restored. You can download it from here: http://itlu.ownz.ch/wordpress/?page_id=5

If however, you are not interested in trying that for whatever reason, my next advice would be to uninstall and reinstall iTunes and start from scratch. Let iTunes scan your computer all over again and create a new library.

If you are sure they are gone from iTunes, I think the only way to get them back is to drag and drop them onto the iTunes window.... Of your iPod has at least some of the songs, you can download a program that will put the songs from the iPod back onto your computer. Otherwise, I don't think there is any other way of getting them back, unfortunately. :(

1.Put all the songs into a single folder.

    2.Open iTunes.

    3.Go to file

    4.Click Add Folder to Library

Then your done *but you'll have to put the albums and artists again.*

-just make a playlist on itunes

-put all the music on your computer into one file.

-and click it and drag it into the playlist you created on itunes

    P.S

this happened to me before too.

i never tried just dragging the music into the actual itunes library though.

i just did the playlist thing and it worked.
