Do I have some kind of mental disorder or problem?

I think i have either bipolar disorder, depression, or schizophrenia. I al ways feel down or bad about myself. I feel as if i will never amount to anything, and am no good for anything, and that no one will ever love me. i just cant get used to the idea that not everybody hates me. I hate almost everybody exept for a select few people. My brother used to be depressed and have panic attacks all the time so this kind of thing been in my family. By the way im 13 tears old. is there some kind of doctor I can go to to get checked for these kind of mental problems?

You're obviously feeling pretty grim, and I'm sorry it's feeling so difficult. I can't see anything in what you've said to make me suspect bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. I'd say you have low self-esteem to the extent of becoming depressed, and the best thing you can possibly do is see your school counsellor or request a counselling or psychotherapy appointment via your parents. The fact that your brother also has problems does suggest that perhaps things haven't been all plain sailing in your family, and some counselling work now might help the rest of your adolescence feel a whole lot easier.

It sounds more like depression than Bipolar Disorder or Schizophrenia. But I'm not a doctor.

Go to your family doctor to be screened. If you have a good doctor, he/she will attempt to rule out any physical causes. If no physical cause can be found and your doctor thinks that you might have a mental disorder, he/she can refer you to a psychiatrist.

If you want, you can see a psychiatrist initially. They will generally rule out physical causes as well. However, it is less expensive to see a family doctor, so you may as well start there.

First of all I am sorry you are feeling this way. Second the fact that you admit you may have a problem means that you most likely do not have one that severe. These kinds of disorders are genetic, so this does make sense. You have to convince your parents to get you help. If they took your brother to get help then they will most likely take you. It will be a hard conversation, but it is better than spending the rest of your life miserable. Good luck

I'm guessing it's the age. Don't worry, you'll be fine. :) Just think positive thoughts. People with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia have very little insight to the fact that they are not thinking clearly. Many believe they are fine, or that other people are the problem.

You may just be at that age where lots of chemicals in your body are changing and sending signals. I think if you just focus on the good things and think positive you will be alright.

At 13, it's probably hormones. If it's any of those, it's depression, but that's unlikely.

talk to your doctor, especially if you have a family history of mental disorders.

    therapy would really help.

Just try to get along with people. You don't need to like them; you just need to accept them. And I hope you don't hate me =P
