Moms who exclusively breastfeed (no bottles)?

Do you still pump and freeze just in case something would happen to you (illness, hospitalization, death or other necessary separation) before you weaned? I mentioned this to one of my friends and she called me morbid and said she doesn't see a reason to pump.

I can't be the only one who does this. Besides, I use the frozen milk for other things like burns, baby nose drops, diaper rash soak, etc.

I do one session a day, generally in the morning and I get about 5 oz after nursing first.

I pumped, froze, and gave it away.

I donated through the HMBANA bank in my area, so I had a regular pumping schedule. Anytime I couldn't donate (someone in the house was sick, or I had taken medicine that needed to get out of my system) I pumped anyway, and froze it for any unexpected needs. I gave my freezer stash away to several friends' babies and one adult going through chemo.

No, I don't...I should though. That is a good idea, and not morbid at all. My baby was 6 months old when my 3 year old was hospitalized with appendicitis. The first night only I stayed at the hospital, I am sure my husband and baby would have had a better night if I had some milk stored...

What a great idea - and not for the morbid 'what if I die' problem.

Breast fed my 2nd and never thought to pump & freeze - 26 weeks pregnant with #3 and will definitely store some this time - like the others say - even just if its a back up supply if you get caught away from home / sick or Dad wants to take over one of the feeds ( hopeful !).

Brilliant idea - you sound like a very caring, conciensious Mum. :)

I certainly did pump and freeze it. I don't find it morbid at all. Things happen. Once I was stuck in traffic coming home from a visit to my mother and the baby was screaming bloody murder. I hadn't been gone long, but she was hungry. So there was the milk in the freezer. I think it is thinking ahead. You never can tell what could happen. I always had at least a day's worth in there.

i pump and store too just in case i ever need to run out due to an emergency and have no time to feed my baby. this way i know he will be fed because he has the milk stored for him in the freezer. i try to always have a bottle of freshly pumped milk in the fridge because i would like him to take fresh milk instead of frozen one, just in case i have to leave the same day. if i don't use it, then i will freeze it for storage. don't worry mommy, you are not morbid or obsessed, you just think of your baby's well being a lot, as i do too. you're doing a great job!

I try! Lol. I pump once day, but I only get about 3oz. That's only enough to mix with her rice cereal the next day. I'm so jealous of women that say they have months worth of breastmilk stored. I would love to have enough to mix with homemade baby food. Not morbid at all! Being a mom just seems to make us think about those kind of things more.

I did pump and freeze when I exclusively breastfed, but it didn't do me any good because my son wouldn't drink it after it had been frozen anyways! But it's not morbid, it's thinking ahead!

It's a smart thing to do. I never did, though: For the fist six months of my daughters life she nursed every two hours day and night. That was enough activity on my boobs.

I pump and store, you can never know when you need, sometimes your breast milk will dry up.

I also work so that has helped me a lot my baby has never had any other milk but breast milk.
