  • Overwhelmed by what to feed cat?

I'm adopting a cat in a couple weeks and I don't know what to feed her. She's currently on Science Diet which I know I don't want to keep her on. My dogs are on Canidae but I've read that Felidae isn't as good as Canidae and that canned food is much better than dry.

Is that completely true? I mean is Friskies canned better than Innova Evo dry?

What do you feed, and why? And how much does it cost/month and how much does the cat eat/day?

  • Questions for parents with ERF 2 year olds?

What harness height is your toddler on? My son is RF in a Marathon and is about 35 in tall. He's on the second lowest slot. Does that sound right? It just seems like he's been there forever and has gotten a lot taller. I'm pretty sure it's right because the next highest is still too high for him.

  • Moms who exclusively breastfeed (no bottles)?

Do you still pump and freeze just in case something would happen to you (illness, hospitalization, death or other necessary separation) before you weaned? I mentioned this to one of my friends and she called me morbid and said she doesn't see a reason to pump.

I can't be the only one who does this. Besides, I use the frozen milk for other things like burns, baby nose drops, diaper rash soak, etc.

I do one session a day, generally in the morning and I get about 5 oz after nursing first.

  • Question for those who feed EVO?

I'm doing raw right now but soon I will have to switch to dry food for about 6 months. (Long story...nauesa...raw meat...don't mix)

ANYWAY...From what I've read, most people don't follow the guidelines on the bag because they feel it's too much.

So how much do you think a 70 lb Shepherd and a 45 lb beagle/boxer mix would need per day?

Does anyone know roughly how many cups there are in a 28.6 lb bag?

  • Dog getting out of yard?

I'm hoping some people can help me brainstorm. For the last couple of months, one of our dogs has been escaping nearly every time she goes outside. Here is some background:

    -She's spayed

    -She gets plenty of exercise

-Our backyard is "fun" for a dog. Plenty of toys and a digging pit.

    -She loves being outside

-We have a chain link fence and we have staked it with huge yellow stakes.

-She has gotten these stakes up before. No idea how. She just pulls them up.

-She will not go to the bathroom on a leash

-She gets out immediately and if we're inside or outside. We always watch her, either from the door or the porch.

-She usually gets out and then immediately wants back in but can't figure out how. But sometimes she roams the neighborhood.

-We've had to retrieve her from the pound twice. Which means she's willing to get into strangers' cars. This scares me. She could get hit by a car or go home with the wrong kind of people.

I feel like there's something I'm forgetting, but I can't think of it. We currently don't have the funds for a new fence or professional trainer advice.

We do not want to re-home her. We love her very much and she's a perfect dog in every way but this.

Is there anything we're overlooking? Anything we could try? Any reason she's doing this?

  • Can Dr. Bronner's or Vinegar Be Used in a Steam Cleaner?

I don't really want to use the stuff that's made for it. Too many chemicals and smells.

  • Best Cloth Training Pants?

Anyone have any recommendations? I know I like Bummi covers and Happy Heiny pocket diapers. Are the training pants any good? Any other good brands?

  • Moms of intact sons?

My son is 16 months old and the past few weeks, I've noticed that I can see the very tip of the head of his penis. If he has an erection or he has just urinated, the whole head is visible. So my question is, is his foreskin retractable now and if so, do I still leave it alone? I know they say that your son should be the one to pull it back and clean it, but that is when they're talking about preschoolers and older. I'm in Ohio, US and the circumcision rate is still pretty high here so I don't know many moms with intact sons.

Anyway, sorry if this was hard to follow. I have a 3 week old and my 16 month old and my mind is kind of foggy.

  • Alternatives to pedialyte?

My 10 month old son has a stomach virus and no interest in nursing. He's interested in water but can't keep it down. His doctor suggested pedialyte. I've tried orange, grape and unflavored and he doesn't like any of them. What else can I try?

  • How can I make breastfeeding a more pleasant experience this time? And anyone who tandem nurses...?

Background: I'm currently 16 weeks pregnant with my second child. I'm actually still nursing my first. He'll be 14-15 months when this baby is born. I haven't decided whether or not I'll wean him or tandem nurse.

Problems: I would at least try tandem feeding, but I'm afraid of what will happen if I decide it's too hard. I imagine he would be very resentful if I wean him cold turkey after the baby is born. I'm mildly depressed more often than not and I had awful PPD after my son was born. I absolutely hated nursing and if it hadn't been for my husband's support, I most definitely would have given up. I really didn't enjoy breastfeeding until my son was about 3-4 months old.

Since my son will be over 1 year, if I have to choose, I will nurse the newborn. But if anyone has any tips or advice to get me through tandem nursing, that would be great. And if anyone has any ideas on how I can make breastfeeding more pleasant in general this time, that would be great too.

    Thanks

  • First Birthday Etiquette?

I have a few months before I have to worry about this, but I just read an article that suggested opening presents after the party to avoid a meltdown. It seems like a good idea to me, but is it rude?

  • Bleeding during pregnancy?

Ok, on Sept. 9th I had some spotting. I went to the ER and my hormone levels were good and my cervix was closed. I had my levels checked 2 more times and they doubled each time. But in between the 2nd and 3rd test, I passed a clot and I've been spotting since the 9th. It's usually pink but dark red, almost purple at times. I get an ultrasound on Friday but I can't take 2 more days of this. Has anyone ever experienced something like this and had a healthy pregnancy?

I also bled with my son but it was never red and I never passed clots. And it never lasted this long.

Please help put my mind at ease!

  • Anyone had a homebirth in a state where it's illegal for a midwife to assist?

How did it go? How did you find a doctor who was willing to give care to a patient who is doing a homebirth? Who was the witness for the birth certificate?

I'm not currently pregnant, but I would love a homebirth for my next baby. Just trying to plan ahead!
