Need help! ASAP! What will the insurance company say?
My boyfriend and I were at a stop light the light turned green. We started to go (this area is under contraction so the lanes are all messed up). The car in front of stops then hits their braks so did my boyfriend but it was to late we hit her. The car started to coast back and hit us again. Then we tryed to pull of to the side. We realized that it was a chain reaction. Car #1 was hit by car #2, car #3 hit car # 2 and we hit car #3 in that order. We did not launch all the cars together.
I did call the police and we got the stupidest officer there was that pretty much wrote the story up wrong. At the sence everyone was agreeing what happend. The woman we hit was a 77 year old lady.
The first thing she when she got out of the car was she couldn't get her car in gear. (I don't know why it was out of gear but ok) Car #1 and Car #2 said they weren't going to do anything about their cars insurance company wise. Car #2 I'm sure will be going after the older woman in Car #3. The older woman said since it was likely the bumper would just buff out it was ok for my boyfriend to do that for her. But he said he would not touch the front of her car. (After talking to the insurace company they said my boyfriend fixxing it is a bad idea)
My boyfriends car is the worse out of all of them it smashed in hood in, and broke the radatior brakets. (His car sat higher then hers and thats why it smashed it)
The cop did try to write my boyfriend a ticket but the woman said it wasn't his fault the other cars hit before he hit Car #3.
How will the insurance company handle this?
What will happen to our car?
We have Geico inusrance will no colistion insurance.
It seems like his inusrance company is trying to say it was all his fault.
He is fine with paying for car #3 because that is the car he did hit....he just doesn't want to get stuck paying for everyone elses....they did hit before we did so i believe he should not be at fault.
we already did turn it into insurance. They said not to touch that ladys car because if something else is broken. Then its his fault. But again if the lady does call and let us, then does sign a paper he may. I understand his car is SOL, We will just have to pay for that.

You have it pretty much right. Your SOL on your car. Let Geico handle the older ladies car. They gave you good advice. don't touch it. Usually what happens is that every ones insurance covers their own vehicle. I seriously doubt you have any thing to worry about from cars #1and 2

Well, him hitting car 3 was his fault. So, that will go against his insurance to fix her car, if he turns it in. If he does decide to fix it himself, then after he fixes it, before she takes the car home, have her sign a statement that she is satisfied that the damage he caused was fixed, preferably in front of a Notary Public. As for the rest of the cars, as long as everyone tells the truth of what happened, then he has nothing to worry about.
He really should turn it into Geico though, since they are the experts and would then handle the other insurance companies.
As for his car, he is SOL. His damage, again, IS his fault and without collision coverage, he is on his own to fix it.

I agree with David C but DON'T talk to the insurance company if the lady will exonerate your boyfriend then as a good will gesture if he can fix it then he should do so.
If you and the lady can handle this without involving the insurance company it will be better and cheaper for all.
By the way you don't have to involve the insurance company

In a front to rear collision the vehicle at the rear is considered at fault - that's the norm and the way the insurance company sees it.
You could try and get a signed statement from the lady that she exonerates your b/friend of blame, otherwise you will probably get an increased premium.
Talk to Geico and try and explain the situation.

First question: Have your turned this in to Geico? In a case like this, the adjusters will usually confer with each other and decide what to do to apportion fault. However, you DID hit the car in front of you, so you'll have to take care of that.
Your description of the accident is pretty confusing, so I can't tell you much more than that. Let Geico handle it.
