Question about water heater?

I have gas in my house, the boiler isn't working but up until a couple days ago hot water was running great. all of a sudden it stopped. My question is that if the pilot on the water heater is on and the pipes aren't frozen because water is still going through, what can be causing the hot water from going through. please reply asap. thank you

It maybe a broken thermostat on the water heater. The pilot should always be on. The thermostat causes the big flame to light up when the water in the tank gets cold. Turn the knob on the water heater all the way to hot you should hear the flame light up. If the water heater is older than about 5 years I would just get a new one installed rather than trying to fix the old one.

while running your hot water from your faucet, feel the pipes going into and out of your water heater. one should be cold and the other should be hot.

if one is not hot, your water heater is not "firing up". adjust your thermostat up until you hear it flame on and wait 1/2 hour and retest.

if nothing happens, you may have a faulty thermostat.
