I've never found Vicodin to be very effective for pain. They give you a nice little buzz for a short period of time, that's about it. Advil is a good nonprescription pain reliever. Darvocet (things that end with "cet"), Oxycontin, Tylenol 3 with codeine -- there are many pain relief pills out there. The problem is, if Vicodin is what your doctors gave you, I'm not sure they would be inclined to give you much else, but I would at least tell them Vicodin isn't doing anything, you need some relief, and see if they prescribe something stronger. Sorry you're hurting, pain sucks. Good luck.

You might need something in addition to the Vicodin temporarily until your pain is under control. Bear in mind that the first day after surgery is the worst, and your pain should get better day by day.
Other drugs that you could take in addition to the Vicodin would be something like hydrocodone or even ibuprofen, spaced out so that you're getting something for pain every 2 hours.
Your best course of action is to tell your doctor the Vicodin isn't doing the trick and you need something more. He's the one to make the best decision, based on your health, kidney and liver function, etc.

First things you need to know about a medication especially if you end up with the generics is this... lets say it says 5/500 apap this means that you have 5mg of vicodin or hydrocodone with 500mg of Tylenol. If you feel that it isn't working I feel for you. Another thing about pain medications is that if the pain is felt then the medication taken you will undoubtedly still feel the pain alot of times only dulled. Now to your question: There are a few stronger medications before you get to oxicottons and morphine. They are Tramadol but you have to ask for it by itself. Otherwise they will most likely give 5/500 which is ultracet. The other one would be oxicodone (perkiset) which is one step lower than morphine i believe the highest dose for the generic is 15/500 but i am not totally for sure. I use two 50mg tabs of tramadol to get rid of my kidney pain because prolonged use of tylenol and ibprofren can damage and kill your liver over time even when taking it as recommended. I hope this helped you and good luck dealing with your pain. Another nice thing about the tramadol is that it is the non addictive form of vicodin. :)

Methadone but so far non of the answers your getting are good ones in the fact that they are all highly addictive. You need to find ways to get past the pain or go through therapy. I have a bad lower back and stay in pain but chose not to take the stronger pain meds because I don't want to become an addict. Tread carefully through these pills because you may end up in a rehab clinique before its all said and done.

Norco is a powerful narcotic painkiller. It is similar to Vicodin but is stronger. Vicodin contains 5 milligrams of narcotic (hydrocodone) and 500 milligrams of Tylenol. Norco contains 10 milligrams of narcotic (hydrocodone) and 325 milligrams of Tylenol.
