- BethLv 61 decade agoWe have a very traditional Thanksgiving meal. Meat: Turkey (I never stuff the turkey, the dressing is served on the side) and ham (we get the spiral sliced ham and soak it in a molasses and brown sugar syrup) Sides: Dressing (my grandmother's recipe), mashed potatoes, Vance Godby's sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, Loreta's cranberry salad (topped with a cream cheese/marshmallow mixture that is like dessert), homemade hot rolls (the yeast smell is to die for while rising), and homemade giblet gravy Sweets: Southern Pecan pie, pumpkin pie, pumpkin roll (usually eaten for breakfast) Drinks: Cranberry fizz, slow brewed iced tea with raspberries and lemons Tip - never buy your pie shell - always make it from scratch! Source(s): We usually do this at my mother's house, but we have transferred this tradition to my home for the last few years. My home begins to smell wonderful Wednesday morning before Thanksgiving!
