Do we really need to bath/shower every day?
My dad is 91 years old and my mother 88 and i asked them about this. And they said that until recent years, people only washed their hands face, feet at night and bathed once a week. Okay i know you are going to say, stink etc, but be realistic, do we really need to bath everyday, do you, or is it just something that has become a recent custom. In the old days they had only two meals a day, it wasn't until early 1900's that people had three meals a day.

Of course not. I grew up getting only one or two complete baths a week. We only "washed up" at sink every day. It was more difficult then, because we had to heat water on the stove. It has just become an accepted thing to do in more prosperous societies. Actually, some dermotologists recommend against it if you are only doing it as a habit.
Many cultures around the world do not, and they live just as long as we do. It is a myth that people in the more "clean" cultures live longer.

Not up until recently, washing hands wasn't very popular, even by doctors and as a result many patients died. It isn't necessary that we shower every day. If you're doing some sort of labour work and sweating - then yes, you should shower daily for hygenic reasons. I think a shower once every couple of days is fair. Not just for hygene, but not mental health. Most people feel relaxed/ at ease after a bath. When I was younger I use to shower maybe once a week, unless I had been out rolling around the dirt or riding my bike. You get the point

Michaelangelo (the painter/sculptor/architect) never bathed at all and lived to be in his 80's. (It's a fallacy that people only lived to their 40's in centuries past - the average was 40 but most lived to their 60's - 70's or died as infants.) Hand washing is a good idea, although it can chap your skin, particularly if you always use soap.
"Cleanliness is next to godliness" is a recent phrase. Back in Victorian times it was considered pretentious and wasteful to bathe very often. And with hand-pumped water that had to be heated over a fire, it was also a lot of work. They would share the same water with the whole family, and at least in some cultures the children went last. Hence the phrase - "don't throw the baby out with the bathwater" - by the time they got to the baby, the water was so dirty, you couldn't see thru it.
Back in the 1940's, at least in farming areas, people still took a weekly bath on Saturday night, so they'd be clean for church. Personally I shower about 3 times a week and haven't had any complaints. I don't sweat much though, it may vary from one person to another.

I don't think we need to take showers every day but it is best if we did. It is good to shower at least every other day. Yeah, I guess all you really need to do is wash all the main areas of your body...oh wait!! How could you do that when your whole body is the main parts. Well I guess if you wash your face where there is lots of oil and dirt that builds up, it might be considered cleaning. If I had to, I think that I would be able to survive from showering every other day. The thing is though I feel so grimy afterwards but I still would get through it.

I bathe once fully every three days. Bathing depends on what kind of job you do. If you work in an office, once every three days is fine. If you work in the sewer, I would say bathing everyday is a must.
I sponge bath for two days so at no time am I ever dirty. Change clothes. Save water. Go by the rule of thumb. If you can smell yourself, then you should have bathed the day before.

Yes, One of the things that you can do to stop back sweating is by taking a shower regularly.
Taking showers regularly can freshen up your body. You need to take a shower couple of times a day. This can keep your whole body dry and cool. At least it can keep your body free from sweat for a couple of hours.
If you feel that you are starting to sweat take a shower immediately to prevent the sweat to buildup. After an activity or work, make sure to take a shower.

It depends a little on your lifestyle and genetics. I don't sweat that much and would be fine with infrequent showers that way, but my hair and scalp get itchy and gross by the third day so I usually do it every other day in winter, every day in summer, when I spend a lot of time gardening and hiking and such and do actually get dirty.
The longest I've ever been without any kind of shower/bath is nine days (on a hiking trip) and my first shower after that was damn near orgasmic! :)

Hello,
Excessive sweating is a clinical condition where parts of the body are sweating beyond what the body needs.
It is commonly an inherited condition and can affect those who suffer from it on a social, functional, and emotional level.
Heavy sweating (also known as hyperhidrosis) is a very real and embarrassing problem, but there are some effective ways to treat it.
Before you hide under bulky sweaters or move to a chillier climate, you can try these proven techniques for combating excessive sweating: http://hyperhidrosis.toptips.org/

After eating more healthy and drinking more water, I didn't need to shower daily. Especially if you have eczema, daily showers are like poison. "washing up" in the sink with some water and soap in the important places is fine. But I think the norm should be at most thrice a week. The skin was not designed to be bombarded with harsh chemicals everyday. It's also more eco friendly :)

Well really I am supporting that why do we need to take a show every day well I think we don't have to knowing that over 1 period of days our body can't accumulate so much filth therefore we shouldn't have to take a bath everyday, sounds weird to me knowing i do take showers everyday but taking baths daily dose improve overall health and so dose having 3 meals a day it renews our sense of hunger making us more concentrated on our work but having baths/showers everyday dose use up allot of water and we only have so much water and we need to conserve but it's up to you what do u think is important:
-overall health
-conservation of water
