simplest way
uninstall firefox.
IE automatically will be default browser.
use IE for once.
Reinstall Firefox.
Untick the option make firefox my default browser and click the box saying donot ask this question again.

In XP, run IE then go to Tools menu then Internet Option (Or Internet Options in the Control Panel). There is a "Programs" tab above. Click it and look for the "Make default" button on the Default web browser section.
